My wife and I were very impressed with the Cally. The room was lovely & warm and the shower was superb. The whole hotel and our room were spotlessly clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was of a very high standard, certainly amongst the best we've had in Portree. Superb cooked breakfast. Very nice bar and... more

My wife and i found the Urquart Caledonian after being blown away at the condition of the place we were actually booked into - thanks UC you saved our trip- not a stunning hotel but CLEAN, also in beautiful surroundings food was good, staff were all nicely turned out and polite to a tee (at breakfast too - had some... more

The people at the Caledonian were among the friendliest and most helpful we found in Scotland. The best thing about the Caledonian is that it is in the middle of Portree, a very nice harbor city on the Isle of Skye where a "town" is defined as any community with more than one crofters house and a herd of sheep.... more

Arrived in Portree late on a Saturday afternoon - like other reviewers tried elsewhere and eventually found the Caledonian. From the outside, it really didn't look anything great. How wrong could we be? What a find! Room was very clean and comfortable - furnishings are relatively new as is the decor. Staff are very helpful and polite and genuinely endeavour... more

Tried more expensive hotels but no vacancies so settled for the Urquhart Caledonian. First impression from outside was slightly worrying but once inside could not have been happier with choice. Full marks for everything. I could not recommend it highly enough. Food, rooms, cleanliness, helpful, friendly staff and situation, all top marks. We will definitely be back. more

I have NO IDEA what was going on with that last reviewer. We had a lovely stay June 23-25. It was one of our favorite hotels of the entire trip. The service was warm and friendly; and the room was very comfortable and roomy with a nice view. The location was ideal. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!... more

We did not enjoy our stay here at all and found it to be the worst accommodation of our trip around Scotland. The room and bathroom was really small for the price we paid. The carpets and furniture were very worn and old. The only good thing about the stay was that the shower was good. We booked a room... more

The Caledonian has a good location - middle of Portree. Rooms were fine, breakfast wasn't the best (very greasy!) and like everywhere in Scotland you have to be up with the birds for it (only served to 9am). I didn't bother the 2nd morning! The only other thing was the noise, theres a lively bar and it went on until... more

We arrived about 5:00pm on a rainy night in April with no reservations and tried the Caley on spec because of its location in the centre of town. There was no traditional ground floor reception, but I found the second floor bar and the young bartender gave me a key to look over the room which was in the attic... more

Just back from a weekend in Portree, Isle of Skye and a perfect stay at the Urqhuart Caledonian Hotel. The staff were all excellent - friendly, welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. This hotel is in a brilliant location right on the main street of the town so makes everywhere within the town area walkable. The room was large... more
