The people at the Caledonian were among the friendliest and most helpful we found in Scotland. The best thing about the Caledonian is that it is in the middle of Portree, a very nice harbor city on the Isle of Skye where a "town" is defined as any community with more than one crofters house and a herd of sheep.... more

Tried more expensive hotels but no vacancies so settled for the Urquhart Caledonian. First impression from outside was slightly worrying but once inside could not have been happier with choice. I have NO IDEA what was going on with that last reviewer. We had a lovely stay June 23-25. It was one of our favorite hotels of the entire trip. The Caledonian has a good location - middle of Portree. Rooms were fine, breakfast wasn't the best (very greasy!) and like everywhere in Scotland you have to be up with the birds for it (only served to 9am). I didn't bother the 2nd morning! We arrived about 5:00pm on a rainy night in April with no reservations and tried the Caley on spec because of its location in the centre of town.
