This hotel was like stayin in a 19th century mannor house. Feels like staying in a museum for the 19th century. Hugh, the host was great, willing to go that extra mile. Big room with big bathroom, huge beautiful bed. Is a great hotel for older couples and familys. No TV in room, shared in lounge room, has wifi though,... more

My husband and I spent a lovely few days on the Isle of Skye at the guest house of Hugh MacDonald. We may be the only people to ever attempt to traverse the island using only public transit, but rambling around, enjoying the restaurants, getting lost in a bog, we had an amazing experience. The Isle of Skye is absolutely... more

I loved this place. My wife and I spent 3 nights there last week, and everything was wonderful. The house and rooms have a kind of faded charm that we enjoyed. It was like living in a museum with all of the artifacts, which were both fascinating and humorous at the same time. The rooms were huge, and the house... more

Viewfield House is a family home as well as a guesthouse and one with both a large and evident history and a good host in Hugh MacDonald. The evening meal was good, as was our room and breakfast. Other than the feeling of staying somewhere with true history, the thing we liked was meeting other guests and our host in... more

I stayed here back in April and really enjoyed the experience. The rooms were comfortable and reasonably priced, the breakfast was good, and the location allowed us to see everything that we wanted to in the area. (I would highly recommend Portree as a base for seeing the Isle of Skye.) Hugh was also a charming host. My husband and... more

This guesthouse is located in old historic home with great character. Our room was not large, but very adequate. Some of the rooms appear to have great views of the bay. Staff was fantastic and the food very good (we only had breakfast). Because we had been walking, we greatly appreciated there was a washer and dryer available to wash... more

I have stayed at the Viewfield House once, and it was my first trip to the Highlands, in 1998. Being a genuine Anglophile, and frequent visitor to London, I was anxious to experience Johnson's Highlands. I strongly recommend staying at The Viewfield House. Mr. Hugh MacDonald is stellar! Fine hospitality, Fine food, and a Fine, Fine historic ambiance that is... more

I have visited Viewfield House twice. I regret it is not more, but I am certain on our next trip to Scotland it will be on our itinerary. Our first trip showed up our shortcomings on estimating driving time in Scotland. We caught the last ferry and arrived at Viewfield House at 1:00 am. Mr. Macdonald was up to greet... more
