After travelling from Australia, my wife and I stayed at Viewfield House in early August 2014. Hugh McDonald, our host, invites all his guests into his family home. The front entrance and halls of Viewfield House are decorated with an eclectic mix of colonial ephemera from a time when England ruled a global empire. Even before guests step through the... More

We stayed here during a mini tour of Scotland in July and it was wonderful. The building is wonderful and a little eccentric, the staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were very quaint and comfortable and we felt like we were staying in a very posh friends house rather than a hotel, they made us feel... More

We stayed with our teenage friend of the family and our son for two nights on a voucher, appreciating the acceptance of our two dogs. The first night was a late arrival and we had dinner on the second night without a quibble. The staff were very friendly in a heart-warming way and the owner came in the evening to... More

I thought this place was really cool. It was like staying in an actual family home from old Scottish and English novels. The fact that this is the owner's 7th generation family home just added to my fascination. Mr Hugh McDonald was very pleasant and talkative with us, and was not seen cooking eggs the morning we were there. CAN... More

Nice property....unfortunately, terrible owner. We spent two nights in Portree. When we arrived at the Viewfield House I muttered to my boyfriend, "wow nice!" He, who is not a big fan of B&B -- seemed to agree. This was a last minute reservation. The property was charming and clean. We could hear almost everything around us but it added to... More

Thank you Hugh for the wonderful stay at ViewField House- Portree Scotland. Magnificent home decorated like the Victorian Period. Wonderful walk to the garden and a short stroll into town. I enjoyed the walk up to the logging roads where I could see both lochs! Karen Benson

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights here. The place is packed full of antique furnishings and artefacts from a bygone age. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely young lady, think her name was Rebecca. We ate in the hotel for the first night and the food was very nice, delighted to be served nice fresh vegetables instead of the... More

My partner and I and our dog bought an Itison voucher for two nights B&B with high tea. We received a warm welcome from the owner, previous Tripadvisor comments did not apply to us. The hotel has a lovely relaxing atmosphere. It was nice to not have a tv in the room. The grounds were great for the dog to... More

You are greeted with a hall full of stuffed animals. Strangle eccentric decor. Place is clean but with a faded grandeur. Our room was clean and looked out over the front of the house. The public area is a bit staid. The television room only has a few comfy chairs and there are no TV in the rooms. The other... More

I could write a very long review of my extremely brief experience with this hotel. Long story short the hotel staff screwed up our booking by allowing the correspondence of another individual sharing the same surname as my girlfriend to change the date of our arrival. The owner was unapologetic, rude and extremely unhelpful. Customer service from him was shocking.... More
