We had booked 2 nights stay at Viewfield House on Skye; this is in a quiet but good location just outside Portree, with parking at the hotel. I found the building rather dark and dismal, but our room on the second floor was clean and comfortable. The food and service were both excellent and the Lord was a charming host...and... More

This is a beautiful Manor House set in the woodlands about a 10 minutes easy walk to the centre port area of Portree. We we greeted by a charming young lady who showed us to our room which was on the top floor up many steep stairs. (She even helped with carrying the baggage to our room). The room was... More

The owner's family has been in this home for over 200 years. This large home is in a beautiful, quiet wooded area, that is about a 15 minute walk to the harbor in Portree. Our room is large and comfortable, with lovely old furniture. The breakfasts are wonderful - choices of cooked eggs, bacon, fish, etc. etc. and a buffet... More

Admittedly, this is a quaint Victorian-style B&B but it lacks some personal warmth and attention to guests. Compared to other properties we have stayed in in Scotland it is pricey. In particular, we were left disappointed with the service. We came down to breakfast at 0830AM having been told that breakfast was served strictly from 0830-0930 (not much flexibility!), only... This was a delayed Mothers Day present from my children. We rang to book months ago and this was the first time available (2 Sept 14), which, for us, was OK. We drove to Skye and just before you get to Portree there is a petrol station on the right and an opening into a wooded drive on the left... More

If you want a real taste of Scotland, you can do no better than, staying at The Viewfield house. We got married in Portree, and spent a few wonderful nights here on our travels around Scotland. The hotel is full of historic charm, from the lounge with big open fires in the evening to the lovely dinning room, where guests... More

If you like cozy, comfortable, unassuming, friendly, ecclectic, history and antiques, home cooked meals-- this hotel is a feast for the senses. If want state of the art, brand new, modern, updated furnishings, and trendy food, please don't go here and write a bad review---because Viewfield isn't trying to compete with the newest, latest, greatest. Viewfield is just a cozy... More

After travelling from Australia, my wife and I stayed at Viewfield House in early August 2014. Hugh McDonald, our host, invites all his guests into his family home. The front entrance and halls of Viewfield House are decorated with an eclectic mix of colonial ephemera from a time when England ruled a global empire. Even before guests step through the... More

We stayed here during a mini tour of Scotland in July and it was wonderful. The building is wonderful and a little eccentric, the staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were very quaint and comfortable and we felt like we were staying in a very posh friends house rather than a hotel, they made us feel... More

We stayed with our teenage friend of the family and our son for two nights on a voucher, appreciating the acceptance of our two dogs. The first night was a late arrival and we had dinner on the second night without a quibble. The staff were very friendly in a heart-warming way and the owner came in the evening to... More
