This hotel is in a great location, friendly staff, good breakfast and large room with comfortable bed. What more is there? And when we arrived there was a piper across the street. This must be the best hotel in Portree.

Was a bit disappointed when I first saw the room, very dated for the price we paid. Bed was comfy however and a lovely view over the water. Reception staff were helpful and even organised an early breakfast for us. Our breakfast was fine, and the breakfast ladies could not have been nicer. Didn't eat in hotel as the restaurant... More

We spent two nights in this hotel towards the end of July. It is well situated in a central position close to the harbour and shops. Car parking is limited (small private park for hotel) and can be difficult if you arrive late. The reception staff are very welcoming and friendly. It is a large old hotel last refitted some... More

I arrived to a fully booked hotel and my booking was for the next night, not the night I arrived!! This was not any fault of the hotel. The receptionist was absolutely amazing. She did not make a drama out of a crisis....she found me a bed, not usually used. She moved her car out of the car park for... More

First, I have to laugh at some of the most petty complaints ever in the reviews below - eg complaining because of toilet paper - some people should stay home. Kudos to the management to respond so politely to those people. I travel every month for work and I've stayed in hotels all over the world. From $2000/night to $49/night.... More

Arrived at the hotel after a long day travelling and we were quickly checked in and allocated our room. We had a lovely view from our room across the street and to the harbour. Very pleasant vista of fishing boats and water activities. The hotel is centrally located - everything in this small town is within easy walking distance. There... More

This place is like going back in time, it's so dated and needs a complete re-vamp. The "Restaurant" (if you can call it that) is like a works canteen from the 70's. The menu is basic, portions really small and its expensive for what you get. The waitress 'plonks' your food down like a dinner lady at school canteen. Eat/stay... More

Thank you for your review. Well Plaid is a casual family friendly diner. Our restaurant is situated at the front of the hotel with spectacular views of Ben Tianavaig and Portree Bay. We are sorry if you felt that your plate was "plonked" down by our waitress. All our female waiting staff are very friendly happy people and I cannot... More

We are a family of four who travelled to Isle of Skye via Highland explorer tours. We stayed in Portree for 2 nights in July 2014. We were booked at hotel Royal by the organizers and were quite pleased with the location. The check in was smooth and quick. There is no lift in the hotel but they do have... More

On a soggy, windy day on Skye we wanted somewhere quick for lunch so weren't very bothered by the fact that the interior of the hotel was a little dated and lacked atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure our dog had water. We ordered the haggis neeps and tatties and well, it was the best I had... More

Having spent a fortnight touring Scotland, our final 4 days were in Portree on the wonderful Isle of Skye. We pushed the boat out on accomodation costs as a grand finale to our trip, but we weren't blown away by the Royal despite the high cost per night (£147). Yes, it is beautifully located, and the view over the harbour... More

Thank you for your review. We do try to keep our rates competitive with local hotels. Our hotel decoration is kept traditional but we will be undergoing some more refurbishment during the winter. We have a new head chef who has completely changed our Tianavaig View Restaurant menu to keep it at a higher level than our bar and Well... More
