Ok so this review is a mixed bag, The staff where lovely the breakfast good quality. And from what I could see the main house looked ok. Our room was in the lodge and at a price of £102 for the night I was expecting something more than we got. The decor in the room was very tired. The bed... More

We were not in the main house, as booked. We were greeted by a transparent bag of dog poo left by the front door of the annexe- a message from a previous disgruntled guest? The room was pleasant but we discovered that the bed had not been made properly, the bottom sheet did not cover the bare mattress. The bar... More

We booked this hotel through last minute.com as we were struggling to find accommodation on Skye. We were told that the only room available was the honeymoon suite which we took. We thought it was rather expensive but hoped it would be worth it. It wasn't. We arrived 10 minutes before check in time on a glorious afternoon but were... More

Really not like it appears in the photos. They placed us in the back "lodge" building and as soon as we walked in the mildew smell was disturbing. We asked for an alternate room but there was no option and the employee's response was like; "yeah it's just kind of like that back there". Also since it becomes cold in... More

The room was expensive, it was in the Lodge area and it was musty and damp. The decor was dark and univiting. The ensuite was in need of an upgrade . The main hotel area was a mis match of styles . The staff at breakfast were friendly, breakfast just acceptable. This place needs a complete makeover, could be good

I recently spent two nights at the MacKinnon Country House Hotel in Kyleakin, Scotland, on the Isle of Skye. I was with 3 girlfriends, in 2 rooms. Of the dozen places we stayed, this one was the most expensive, and the most disappointing. It was very attractive as we approached, and the seasonal workers were very friendly. We were given... This property needs some real changes but the sad thing is, they could be done quite easily. When we arrived it was early afternoon around 1:30pm and we had a reservation. We didn't really expect that our rooms would be ready, but there is always a chance. The cold, unfriendly greeting we received by a young woman should have been... More

We found the guest house comfortable and pleasant. In addition to breakfast the restaurant provided meals. The food was very good, but I thought a little expensive. Checkin time of 4pm was a little unusual which did not inconvenience us, but I know would inconvenience others. I would stay here again. It had a comfortable lounge and bar to sit... More

We stayed for a one night stopover on our way to The Three Chimneys (see separate review). I can see where many of the reviews of Mackinnon Country House Hotel are coming from, but as far as we were concerned it served its purpose for a stopover of one night perfectly. Our room was small and dated but had everything... More

We had a wonderful experience at the Mackinnon Country House Hotel, primarily due to the great location and the excellent service from the staff. Some reviewers have advised against staying in Kyleakin, but we loved being away from the crowds of tourists in places like Portree. In addition, many B&Bs on Skye are right off the main roads. The Mackinnon... More
