With its majestic position overlooking the Hebrides towards Tobermory Bay and the Sound of Mull, the imposing Western Isles Hotel dates from 1883. It offers arguably some of the best views in the area and the 28 rooms – all of which have en-suite facilities – providing a comfortable base from which to discover the local villages and islands. Meals can be served in the elegant dining room or taken in the informal surroundings of the Conservatory Bar; afterwards enjoy a warming whiskey next to a real fire. A memorable stay awaits, whether for short or long breaks, weddings or for business. more » « less

We stayed in the Western Isles during August 2007. Arriving at reception, no staff were on duty - a friend of the hotel manager was standing in. The lobby was dirty, and there was an unpleasant odour pervading the hotel. In our room, bottles of Molton Brown soap and conditioner were provided - these had curdled. The TV aerial had... more

This hotel does not merit even 1 AA star let alone 3. We were booked in for 6 nights, we only managed 3! It was our honeymoon and although we were upgraded to a suite upon arrival, we were appalled by the service levels, standards and management of the hotel. The suite was dirty, the bed linen and towels were... more

This was once a great place to stay, however recently I'm afraid standards are in free fall. The rooms could use a good clean and generally the hotel is worn and tired. Such a pity because the location is fantastic. I can hardly believe how bad things ahave become. I would expect the AA / RAC/ Scottish Tourist Board will... more

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel and did not enjoy anything about it. We were in Tobermory on buisness and were really disappointed with the accomodation. The staff were unprofessional the breakfast just tasted like everything had been deep fried, the continental selection consisted of a couple of cereals, the coffee tasted like metal and... more

Fabulous location for a hotel. Unfortunately I thought the hotel was over priced for the standard it offered. Our bathroom tiles could have done with a really good scrub with bleach. Decor very tired and scruffy. The staff were a little thin on the ground the ones that were available seem to be run of there feet. more

Having made a booking for 20 of us I was worried after reading previous reviews of this hotel but happily we had a good time in tobermory .The hotel is old and a bit tired but the rooms are big ,warm and clean with hot water and loads of soft towels .We had a warm welcome ,the receptionist coped with... more

My wife and I loved our 3 day stay at this hotel, and rate it as possibly the most enjoyable hotel experience in all of our travels around the UK. Those things which we regard as key to a good hotel experience were all first class - room size, view, bed size, bed comfort, bathroom size, quietness and hot water... more

I had to go to Tobermory for work back in August. Unfortunately I couldn't get into my usual Hotel - The Tobermory Hotel and I was placed for a couple of day in the Western Isles Hotel. The Hotel is very tired and in major need for renovation. The room, albeit large, was scruffy. The furniture dated and the carpets... more

Of the six properties we stayed in during our recent trip to Scotland, we were most looking forward to and relishing the idea of the Western Isles Hotel in Tobermory. Now, at the end of our trip, I can say that this hotel turned out to be the worst accommodation we had, and the biggest disappointment, by far! We reserved... more

There is nothing positive we can say about the hotel. The worst hotel we have ever stayed in over 50 years. Reception, rooms, restaurant were all abysmal. At 6pm arrival had to wait for rooms to be readied (as did others). One bath towel and uncomfortable bed supplied. Even the reception-booked wake up call did not arrive. The restaurant meal... more
