Not complaining because it was cheap. It's like comparing an Indesit and a Whirlpool washing machine. The Indesit is half the price because you get what you pay for - it works, but it ain't great. The same applies here - lovely big rooms, lucky with getting a nice view, but it's a very tired hotel that hasn't changed much... More

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a January weekend staying at the hotel. Room was really nice and great value for money. The food was ok. Breakfast was good. We were served by an English guy who was pretty unfriendly, and a bit patronising to the waitress he was training. She was very friendly and could show him a thing or... More

Last minute booking to bring new year in at Tobermory. The Western Isles Hotel was just what we were looking for. 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast in a see view room. The hotel is a bit worn and in need of some renovations but dont let this put you off. The room was spacious and looked out to see.... More

Took a short trip to Mull last minute and found the Western Isles Hotel - it was perfect for what we wanted. Good traditional Scottish hotel, friendly staff. Had a problem with the hot water but as they were quiet, they gave us the key to a second room to use the shower as we pleased - nice touch. Lovely... More

Had a twin room, with sea views at the price of £70 for the night, it was a side room so view was not great for the extra £15. Room was basic. Toilet door didn't lock, and brown stains in toilet, overall bathroom needs refurbished. No plugs available next to mirror and dresser, had to pull dresser out to get... More

I'm so sorry you weren't happy with your experience at the hotel. We've been having some fantastic guest feedback regarding the dining experience so it's very disappointing to read your comments. I can assure you that a fresh fruit medley of honeydew melon, watermelon, grapefruit, orange and strawberries is prepared freshly every morning and our chef would not dream of... More

We actually visited before January 2015 on two occasions - once for my birthday and the second time when four of us spent New Year at the hotel. Richard & Esplin have been busy since they took over the hotel and are gradually getting this character location back to its former glory. The location is superb sitting above the harbour... More

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave an excellent review for the Western Isles Hotel. It is a large project trying to restore this old Victorian hotel back to it's former glory and your positive comments are welcomed by all the staff. Of course, it does help that we have such an fantastic location - definitely the... More

What a fantastic few days we spent here. You can't beat the location of this hotel set overlooking the town. We paid a little extra for a view over Tobermory harbour - well worth the money although it was dark by the time we returned in the evenings. We personally loved it but I guess some visitors may find it... More

Thank you so very much for your truthful but fantastic review. At this time of year it is still very dark in the evenings but I hope you enjoyed a beautiful sunrise looking over the Sound of Mull to the distant hills beyond. I will pass on your lovely comments to our staff. It really is appreciated when our guests... More

We booked through a Groupon deal, 2 nights b&b, excellent value. Although initially poor welcome, ie none .... due to language barrier of staff member who could not understand us, not good considering we are Scottish, we enjoyed our stay. Lovely spacious room complete with cobwebs on the light fittings which we overlooked. Comfortable, clean bed, had great nights sleep.... More

I appreciate you taking the time and trouble to leave a wonderful review. So often, Tripadvisor can be used to accentuate negatives so it's heart-warming to receive positive comments too. Thank you very much. More

This hotel is like stepping back in time, it kind of reminded me of Faulty Towers but without the comical mishaps. The hotel itself could really do with a refurbish but this really should put you off, the rooms are clean and comfortable along with the bathrooms. Don't rely on having wifi, mind you it is hit and miss all... More

We enjoyed our three nights in this rather crumbling hotel. OK, the rooms could be in a better state of decoration and most of the public areas are certainly in need of refurbishment, but it was worth putting up with the deteriorating stags’ heads, sagging sofas and battered furniture to enjoy the views from the conservatory (where the evening meals... Many thanks for your review of the Western Isles Hotel. Probably the biggest issue that jumps out at us is that many guests feel the décor is tired. We are currently working on this and many of the rooms are currently being refurbished. I'm so pleased you wish to return to the hotel and hope to welcome you back to... More
