We booked a room at Baile-na-Cille on the off-chance as we were touring the Outer Hebrides. OK it's pricey and the room we stayed in was basic (no ensuite - but huge!) but those are trifles when you consider the whole experience. Firstly there are the views, simply stunning. I doubt if any hotel in Britain is in a more... More

We had a wonderful stay with our two daughters - the food was excellent, and we were looked after wonderfully by our host, who even found time to play table football with Dad and the teenagers. And needless to say, the location is very special - could spend the whole day just watching the water creeping in and out over... More

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of July on a recommendation whilst staying in a similar place in Shetland. I was not disappointed. The owner Richard as well as being a fantastic cook, is an excellent host who obviously likes meeting people. The ever changing range of guests in the dining room at breakfast and dinner gave way... Wonderful wiew on the seaside. The service is poor. Our room was small and poor on forniture; no shower system in the bathroom, poor wifi,. The hotel is the only chance you have to dinner for a lot of miles around. Dinner (fixed menu) is at 7 pm , if the staff is on duty . Otherwise you have to... More

I am so glad that we discovered this away-from-it-all spot and the welcome offered by our host Richard. Don't come here if you need 5-star hotel facilities, luxury furnishings, state of the art plumbing etc. Do come here if you appreciate beautiful surroundings, a convivial house party atmosphere, and a touch of eccentricity. Not the cheapest B&B we stayed in... More

If you have a chance, stay here. The setting is wild and the hotel is unlike any place else. The dinner is costly, but definitely do it at least once. The food is delicious, the conversations are fun and the host is delightful. The only drawback for us is that the carriage house suite had only a bath tub, no... More

This is the question we've asked each other over and over. How can I accurately describe this experience? If you've ever seen a movie with guests enjoying a house party you have an idea. We booked dinner due to the location - off the beaten path - but would do it again if there were dozens of places within sight.... More

There aren't many places where you can play a couple of sets of tennis at ten in the evening on a perfectly maintained lawn with an expanse of beach and distant mountains as a backdrop. Baile-na-cille (or Bally na Killa as it's roughly pronounced) is a Lonely Planet legend & convivial owner Mr Gollin delivers on all things eccentric. There's... More

I booked Baile-na-Cille because it has a family connection. The location of the guest house can only be described as dramatic. It is very remote, and situated in a stunning landscape. Our only regret was that our stay was much too short. The guest house is set up with all sorts of activities as well as having a stunning landscape... More

I am so thankful that I somehow stumbled across this hidden gem, and despite this review, I hope it stays this way. Baille na cille is a special place, and not one meant for people who can't appreciate its very unique and other worldy beauty and serenity. I wish my husband and I had more time here, but we truly...
