My first ever visit to Isle of Lewis started rather disappointingly, and I was glum due to best-laid plans going awry. And agley, as Rabbie Burns wisely said. A lucky find in Stornoway changed all that. Shona answered the door of her guest house Hal O' The Wynd, with a big welcome smile. Here's me stranded and in need of... More

We needed a place to stay for one night in Stornoway as we had the early ferry to the mainland first thing. Hal o the wynd was perfectly situated and turned out to be a very very nice place indeed. My friend and I have just returned from a three night stay at Hal O' the Wynd. We knew that it had good reviews but it greatly excelled our expectations. As other reviewers have said, the owners - Ali and Shona - are a great couple who put a lot of effort and pride into making their guests feel welcome... More

It was a very pleasant experience to stay here. The location is excellent (close to the ferry and near a Tesco that stays open until midnight!) and parking was very easy. Ali was a perfect host, making us feel welcome and he provided great advice. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The double bed was on the firm side. The... More

We stayed recently as a family. The accommodation was comfortable, very clean and a better standard than some bigger hotels we've stayed in. The hospitality was wonderful and the owners couldn't do enough for us. The food was superb, cooked fresh to order. All in all, the hotel provides great service and was we thought excellent value. I would certainly... More

I've given this this B&B 5 stars because while it may not have been the poshest we stayed in during our Western Isles tour it had the best bed (quite new and nice and firm), the best shower facility and the breakfast was as good as any other. Oh, and it was the cheapest by far. We stayed in room... More
