We stayed for 2 nights on the 24/25th June during our 3 week tour of the highlands and islands and enjoyed our stay. We stayed in room 12 which was very comfortable and roomy, the only downside being the furthest room from the car park at the end of a long corridor. Good views with a nice small loch outside... more

Compared to B&Bs I stayed in on this trip, the hotel offers smaller rooms for more money, but that's about par for the course. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food very good and the bar gets pretty lively in the evening. All in all a very pleasant place to stay. Of course, the main draw is the location... more

My daughter stayed here at the height of our journey to the family ancestral homeland during the off season. I had read other reviews on this very page before booking, yet decided to give it a try anyway. I am so very glad! Our reception was very warm and cheery. The room was very comfortable. The food was excellent, more... more

Very nice local hotel specialising in local sea fish, and ask for the Lobster, a little expensive, but worth it. I note the comments about animals in hotels. Yes the owners let their pets roam the public areas and customers are welcome to bring their pets. I didn't smell any pet smells and the owners pets were well behaved. If... more

We stayed here in July for two nights. Our room wasn't brilliant, a sloping ceiling gave limited head room in both the bedroom and bathroom which was somewhat uncomfortable. Should be a room for 1 person only really. Food is OK but don't expect too much. more

The Doune Braes is a well situated hotel in Lewis, close to the standing stones at Callanish and the Black house village, making it a good place to be based if touring Lewis and Harris. We were fortunate to get one of the family rooms, which if slightly dated had loads of space. Some other guests complained that the rooms... more

Well, the room was fine, for me and although the reception is small and smelt slightly discusting! My main problem was the waitress that served dinners and sometimes breakfast and lunches, she was very nice to begun with but seemed to loose paitents at the least request? I never complained up till she slammed down my cola that I order with... more

Have stayed at the Doune Braes now on seven occasions, both in winter and in summer. I love this part of Lewis and the warmth and friendliness of the staff always makes my visit memorable. The hotel is close to beaches, the Callanish Standing stones, Doune Broch and many other historic attractions. I visit on business usually, and find the... more

We were the only people staying in the hotel on what should have been a busy August weekend. Atmosphere was non-existent, whilst the girls behinfd the bar were friendly when we called them we were left on our own. This is not so bad when looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday but as the lights were off pretty much... more
