Stayed this weekend in the lodges - dated, damp-smelling and wholly inhospittable. Upon preparing to check out at 10.30AM on Sunday morning, the cleaners came round in a mini van and shouted " its after 10 o'clock - you're out!!" Have stayed in the Bowmore distillery cottages before and they are a much better bet. more

We are just back from a two nigt stay at the Machrie with two children and three grandparents. We had a great time. The food was lovely and plenty of it, the staff could not have been nicer and, of course, the golf course is amazing. Everyone had a great time - from the under 10's to the over 60's.... more

Lacking in warmth and character, a mix or some great staff and those lacking customer skills. Over priced wine and food, and a lack of service by bar staff in the evenings. Saving graces, hardworking waitress, food was reasonable and the mini bus driver was hospitable, others take note!! Not a place I would bother with again, cheap deals or... more

We recently had dinner at the hotel and from the minute we sat down, we felt the night was not going to go well. The staff are sour-faced, unhelpful, incompetant and not once were we asked if we were enjoying the food or if they could get anything else etc. Food is served in a dated room overlooking a car... more

My mother, my daughter and I stayed in one of the cottages attac hed to the hotel and for almost £100 per night expected something a little smarter. Although it appeared to be clean we did not appreciate the stains on the carpets, the cracked basin and peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. The outside needed a good coat of paint... more

In 2005, a reviewer wrote on this website that "the staff are the most unfriendly bunch of miserable people I have ever met" - in 2008 little has changed. The poorest hospitality I have ever received. The hotel is mismanaged and requires serious investment. Shabby and tacky décor. Abysmal breakfasts. I recommend camping over and above staying in this hotel... more

Stayed for 5 nights during Whisky Festival. Weather fantastic, better than Med! Hotel staff very friendly, and food ok, but pricey for what it is,presentation poor. Restaurant dowdy. Hotel and rooms ok, but a bit dated and scruffy, but very clean and pleasant. Nothing to do in Hotel if not a Golfer, and especially a woman. Car Hire booked, very... more

We rented a self-catering cottage at the hotel for four nights, expecting something quite reasonable at £100/night self-catering for the three of us. Our 2-bed cottage probably looked great when decorated in the 80s but it needed a serious spruce-up - stained carpets, peeling Ashley-esque wallpaper in the bathroom, hole in the bathroom floor, and a sofa bed that we... more

The self catering lodges have two twin rooms. They are basic but fine if you only use it as a base. The beach is a five minute walk over or past the course The living room was of an ample size and the kitchen had all the amenities for cooking. Our bathroom was clean but the shower head attachment kept slipping. We... more

We are just back, having spent 3 days in one of the hotel lodges. We were over for a wedding and our party included 2 pensioners and a 7 year old. I sometimes wonder what exactly some people are looking for. We had a fantastic time. Rooms were large and well maintained. Like everywhere, you could pick faults, but if... more
