We are just back from a two nigt stay at the Machrie with two children and three grandparents. We had a great time. Lacking in warmth and character, a mix or some great staff and those lacking customer skills. Over priced wine and food, and a lack of service by bar staff in the evenings. We recently had dinner at the hotel and from the minute we sat down, we felt the night was not going to go well. My mother, my daughter and I stayed in one of the cottages attac hed to the hotel and for almost £100 per night expected something a little smarter. Although it appeared to be clean we did not appreciate the stains on the carpets, the cracked basin and peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. The outside needed a good coat of paint... more

In 2005, a reviewer wrote on this website that "the staff are the most unfriendly bunch of miserable people I have ever met" - in 2008 little has changed.
