I won a trip to the Whisky Coast via Visitscotland.com. Part of the "winning prize" was 2 nights at the Machrie Hotel. What a disaster. We had spent the first two nights on the Isle of Arran at the Auchrannie Hotel -Brilliant beautiful hotel with great food and wonderful staff. The next two nights of the prize were at the... more

To be honest, my husband and i didn't stay here (thanks to the tips from tripadvisor) but we did come here for dinner one night. The bar service is rather aprupt, and they do look fairly disinterested...but i must say it has one of the most wonderful selections of single malts - some rare - in existence. The dinner (we... more

Staff were really helpful and friendly on reception and in the Golf Shop. I was a bit taken aback at the price given it was off season, wet and deserted, but I'm glad I spent the £55 for a round of golf. The course is maginficent with stunning views and constant variety. Definitely one of the main highlights on a... more

The ladies at reception were extremely friendly and helpfull but that was the only good point of the hotel. It is old and not maintained, shoddy carpets, outdated rooms and bathrooms. Furniture has seen better days and place smells musty. It is supposed to have 3 stars from Visit Scotland but it beggars belief how they got that rating. The... more

Everything in the bad reviews is true but you really need to go there to see and smell how bad! I only want to add a few things. When we came back we noticed that after only one night all our belonging smelt of the dampness. We did not even want to walk on the carpet, the rooms had holes... more

Oh my gosh, our stay at the Machrie could not have been worse. We have been traveling for nearly four years now and this was by far the worst! From the moment we arrived we had abrupt and dis-interested service from the reception, bar and restaurant. The waitress asked to take our order from the bar, but we asked to... more

Stayed this weekend in the lodges - dated, damp-smelling and wholly inhospittable. Upon preparing to check out at 10.30AM on Sunday morning, the cleaners came round in a mini van and shouted " its after 10 o'clock - you're out!!" Have stayed in the Bowmore distillery cottages before and they are a much better bet. more

We are just back from a two nigt stay at the Machrie with two children and three grandparents. We had a great time. The food was lovely and plenty of it, the staff could not have been nicer and, of course, the golf course is amazing. Everyone had a great time - from the under 10's to the over 60's.... more

Lacking in warmth and character, a mix or some great staff and those lacking customer skills. Over priced wine and food, and a lack of service by bar staff in the evenings. Saving graces, hardworking waitress, food was reasonable and the mini bus driver was hospitable, others take note!! Not a place I would bother with again, cheap deals or... more

We recently had dinner at the hotel and from the minute we sat down, we felt the night was not going to go well. The staff are sour-faced, unhelpful, incompetant and not once were we asked if we were enjoying the food or if they could get anything else etc. Food is served in a dated room overlooking a car... more
