Lovely hotel with character and imaginative touches. Loved the atmosphere in the bar and the food was great. The room was excellent with all comforts. Would stay again thanks to the friendly welcome - an Islay tradition!

We stopped at the Islay Hotel for a drink with a view of staying for dinner. We walked into the hotel which was recently renovated to a modern and relatively high standard. The restaurant appeared to be well presented and we looked forward to eating here. We found unfortunately the staff to be very rude, disinterested and detached. We asked... More

We found this hotel on TripAdvisor and booked it for a 2 day stay for our trip to Islay. The hotel is clean, recently renovated, and well cared for. The elevator only goes to the second level, there are 3 rooms upstairs on level III. Hotel has 12 rooms with a very nice restaurant with very good food. The staff... More

This was our second stay in the Islay Hotel. The hotel is clean and the rooms are well sized and comfortable. The food is great and the whisky selection very good. On the whole the staff were excellent. On two of the mornings the breakfast service was very slow (e.g. toast ordered as we sat down but didn't arrive until... More

We have stayed for two days at this modern (not trendy) hotel. Our room was well sized, the beds comfortable, and the views great (room no 8, quite a walk to get there, but the good side about it is that is away from the bar so really quiet), the staff was very helpful and kind, the breakfast excellent and... Nice hotel with very good kitchen and nice rooms. The only disadvanteges are, that the rooms don't have wooden floors and that there is no lounge area where you can sit with day light. There is a tv room in the cellar but who want's to go to such a nice island and sit in the cellar. The owner and... More

Stayed in this hotel and upgraded to the premier room which was well worth the money. The room was a great size and the bathroom was very modern with a huge bath! It was fantastic. The service was impeccable and all the staff were extremely polite and friendly. We brought our dog with us on the trip and he was... More

We only stayed in Port Ellen for one night during a tour of Islay and its distilleries. Unfortunately we didn't stay at the Islay Hotel but we wish we had. I dont particularly like giving bad reviews so suffice to say that the decor, facilities, food and staff are worlds apart from the White Hart just along the road. I... More

I heard a lot about the rebuild and change the building took about 3 years ago. Only had a meal and drinks (seriously the best steak I have ever had) the bar and restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful. A serious stop either for drinks or meal. Perhaps next time I will use the hotel side!

This hotel had such a nice balance between modern amenities and traditional style. Location is ideal as others have mentioned. The staff was super helpful and full of information. We dined at the restaurant one night (apologies to the other diners as we were a bit loud and rowdy towards the end) and I have to say the food was... More
