There is a surprising lack of food options in the area so we thought we'd give the Islay hotel a go. We found the prices on the (bar) menu pretty steep but figured the food would be good. I had an distinctly average fish pie at a whopping £16. We decided we'd try the brunch a couple of days later... More

Very close to the harbour, and half an hour walk from both Laphroaig and Lagavulin distilleries, that's good if you're like me going to taste as many whiskies as possible - remember to take a pair of good shoes in your suitcase. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, had some wonderful haddock, and a good carrot soup. Try the... More

We decided on a last minute weekend trip to Islay and all accommodation was booked so we camped. On the Saturday night we ate at The Islay Hotel and really enjoyed an excellent meal followed by a dram and live music in the lively bar afterwards. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal with a good mix of locals and visitors.... More

As the number of dog friendly places on Islay is quite limited we decided to push the boat out and stay in a platinum room at the Islay Hotel. On arrival we found a dog bed and food bowl for our dog - nice touch! We have eaten every night in the bar, which allows dogs, and food has been... More

The Islay Hotel is easy to find right by the ferry terminal. We had wonderful service through both the hotel and the restaurant. The room was a little warm since we were there during a hot spell, and they have no air conditioning. Although our room was right above the patio for the bar or restaurant, it was not bothersome.

Had a fabulous stay on Islay last weekend ( we had saved up for it by putting £2 coins in a terramundi pot ). Our hotel met with our expectations. All staff were helpful , attentive and friendly. Our room was well appointed with a massive bath in the large en-suite bathroom. We ate in the restaurant and the food... More

This is an excellent boutique hotel which pretty much gets everything right. Rooms are well appointed and well equipped (although we found it difficult to switch off our Jacuzzi!). Breakfast is excellent. The cooking in the evening is outstanding and good value. The selection of drinks is excellent but the wine list is odd, not offering good classic wines to... More

Decided to pop in for lunch on the 27th and glad we did. I don't know where people are getting the poor service from because whenever I'm over seeing mum we always pop in here and are looked after really well with lots of professionalism and actually caring how out meal was going throughout and making sure we had everything... We chose this hotel for a one night stopover en route to Port Charlotte. Our room, advertised as a 'Classic Double', was smaller than anticipated with virtually no hanging space - a tiny freestanding wardrobe squashed in a corner. The room certainly failed to live up to expectatons or the inflated price tag. On arriving for breakfast at 0830 we... More

I have recently had a meal at The Islay Hotel and could not fault it! Having recently heard some awful reviews we decided to go and have a look for ourselves, I have to say the service and meal we received was the complete antithesis of recent poor reviews. Upon arrival our party of three were met by a lovely... More
