My husband and I stayed in port Ellen for a few days this summer. We ate in the Islay hotel for dinner each night. The food was wonderful, the staff were attentive and friendly. When we go back for another holiday we will definitely stay in this hotel. Well worth a visit for dinner.

We stayed here for one night in May for the Islay Festival and used it as a base to hop around the island to 'enjoy' the distillery festival exclusive releases. We got a warm welcome and found the room to be excellent - both in terms of value and condition. We stayed in a top floor room with sky-lights, which... More

we had breakfast here as our bandb was unable to provide. The breakfast was very good- full Scottish! We ate at the pub and had a excellent soup and the burger was also very good. I would recommend a stop at the pub here- good atmosphere- usually very busy

The bar is certainly a popular place to eat, and we enjoyed the convivial atmosphere and the delicious food, so much so, that ate there two nights in a row! We had excellent service from Ellis, who was bright, happy, efficient and enthusiastic about making sure we were enjoying the food and having a fun evening. We can definitely recommend... More

Had a few drinks and a meal on two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food great and MOST pleasant staff. Great atmosphere as everybody there seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had a bit of a wait for our main course as a large party had ordered 14 lobster meals ( a bit of a chore for the chef )... More

Used to visit the hotel last years for an occasional drink when on Islay, with satisfaction, coming from a walk for example around the sound of Islay or a distillery visit. But today the bar was terrible, the girl bar tender clearly did not want to work there and when asking for the WIFI pasword we got the 19th century... More

We were just eating in the hotel, not staying, but we got a warm welcome. The hotel does not offer showers for visiting yachtsmen but the guesthouse near the pontoons does. The food was excellent. We had halibut and sea bass, both well cooked and presented. The only thing preventing a five star rating was the coffee which was not... More

I visited here two days in a row, once for coffee & cakes which we enjoyed so much we returned the next day for lunch. Lovely location and views. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the toilets stunning. The food was great, huge portions for the kids and very reasonably priced. The service was fabulous, we had a lovely friendly... More

Hotel far, far, away from 4 star standards. Service unpleasant and poor, behaving like they were doing you a favour in serving you. Rooms are small, bathrooms gross with no toilet paper ! Our shower was on floor level so all the water was covering the whole bathroom surface after every shower! Breakfast was terrible! Slow service, poor choice from continental... More

Set within the old harbour area, The Islay Hotel has been totally rebuilt but with immense integrity. The Hotel looks as if it has stood there for decades, it is in fact, a well thought out purpose built modern hotel. It is once again, the heart of this little port. I think I enjoyed the craic and friendliness of this... More
