I can honestly say that this was the best place we stayed, not only in Scotland, but the UK. Breakfast alone is enough reason to visit with abundant choice and all so fresh and beautifully presented. A perfect spot just by the beach and with views out across the bay. Our room was very comfortable and one of the very... more

Samhchair B&B stands on 'The Oa' overlooking Kilnaughton Bay and Port Ellen. What a find - only a B&B but the standard approaches a luxury hotel. The decor is of a very high modern design with comfortable furnishings, satellite TV's, tea, coffee, water and even emergency supplies in the room if you have forgotten anything. The hosts Maggie and Robin... more

We arrived at Samhchair around 9.00pm due to the Calmac Ferries timetable. We were greeted with Tea/Coffee Cake and a 'Wee Dram'.......The very best of Scottish Welcomes !!!! Robin & Maggie are wonderful hosts with superb knowledge of the island & "WHAT'S ON". The accommodation was first class & very, very clean. Fantastic breakfast. with wonderful berries. Sorry we only... more

A delightful place. Maggie and Robin will do there best to make you welcome, and to send you off each day with a wonderful breakfast and tips for getting the most out of your visit to the Isle. They will even arrange reservations for dinner or to any other attractions (i.e. distilleries) that you may want to take in. Highly... more

Samhchair's hosts are exceptionally welcoming, accommodating, personable, and informative. Having travelled extensively, I have rarely found a more 'complete' facility. The accommodation itself is extremely comfortable, contemporary, and lacks for nothing. The view -- across the bay from Port Ellen -- is stunning. For anyone seeking a quiet 'taste' of the Western Isles (and all that might imply), starting his/her... more

One of the most tranquil, idyllic spots i've ever visited. The B&B was excellent - lovely room, very clean, and a superb breakfast to satisfy all tastes and cravings. Bikes are available...but it's best to have a car to see some of the sites (Gruinart, Saligo beach are beautiful-- and a trip up to the Oa is breath-taking!). One of... more

Absolutely the best place to stay. It’s actually hard to say or write anything, there really are no words to describe the place, view, breakfast, rooms, “living room” and everything. Maggie and Robin are really the best hosts one can have. You just can’t find anything better than Samchair. more

This is an excellent bed and breakfast with helpful friendly owners who manage to be friendly but not obtrusive AND serve a great (huge) breakfast. We both appreciated the tray of tea on arrival and the Maggie's enthusiasm for the tennis. This is easily the best bed and breakfast i have stayed in (and not a dodgy china doll in... more
