We stayed 4 days at this hotel and were not impressed: - The rooms are small - Too much 'stuff' in the rooms - Beds are very small - Wifi is either not working or very slow - Mismatched furniture or broken furniture - No space in the bathroom - Food / Menu is OK (not special) - Breakfast is... Had a great week staying here for a week while working on Islay. Rooms are lovely, staff extremely nice and food good. The bar is lively and fun too without being too hectic. Would highly recommend. Only quibble would be that breakfast doesn't start till 8am which is quite late but that is a minor point ! It's great to... More

Before I go on let's concentrate on the positive this is a lovely hotel.. wonderful attentive staff, efficient and accommodating. Excellent wine list and fantastic menu.. We had a wonderful meal with fantastic touches like the whiskey selection and homemade fudge with the coffees. However had oysters to start and must have had a bad one as I spent all... More

In response to your review please accept my sincere sympathy for your unfortunate illness following dinner with us. I do understand how unpleasant this can be and is something that we do consider very seriously. We have meticulous and thorough food safety procedures in place and have been accredited by Argyle & Bute council's food safety scheme. Our oysters are... More

Right down to the sugar cubes and butter, I cannot fault this charming hotel. Super rooms, super food, super service. I feel completely rested. The Breakfast must surely be one of the best in Scotland. Hope come back soon.

It's been a while ; I find myself on the Island infrequently , but when I do, this is my spiritual home. I hope Alison takes this in good faith : Food special , and some. You have put door retainers that are too strong ? It's very hard to open the bedroom doors carrying luggage ? The fans in... More

Thank you for your review, it is a pleasure to have repeat guests to the hotel. With regard to the door closures fire regulations insist that the bedroom doors must self close, I will however have the doors checked for adjustment where necessary. There is an isolater switch in the rooms for the bathroom fans which enables the fan to... More

Visiting Islay for a few days birding in November, we found the Port Charlotte Hotel a very comfortable and welcoming base to work from. Excellent food and very helpful staff made it a place we would be very happy to return to. The whisky list would take months to work through!

We spent many an evening in the warm cosy bar as well as the restaurant if the Port Charlotte Hotel. Not only is it warm cosy and welcoming ( big log fire ) but the staff are wonderful too. The good was always excellent , beautifully cooked and refined without being ostentatious . Fresh local produce too which was wonderful,... More

My wife, teenage daughters and I called in spontaneously at about 2.20 for afternoon tea which was advertised as available Monday to Wednesday until 4.30. We were brusquely told that no food was available as it was past 2.00pm?? There were several waiting staff around and still many lunchtime diners in the bar and lounge areas. No alternatives were mentioned.... More

I must disagree with your assessment of my staff on your brief visit to the hotel on Hogmanay. Our lunches are served between 12.00 and 2.00 p.m. Your arrived after lunch service was finished but found us to be very busy as we catered for a large number of lunch guests that day. Unfortunately we were unable to serve our... More

We tend to go to Scotland for scenery, lovely rooms and great food, and we were not disappointed here. Wonderful scenery and views from the bedrooms. The menu is the same each day with 'specials', but we did find enough selection for a week, and the food is terrific, with a skilfully run dining room. Breakfast maybe simpler, but a... More
