Warning, the rooms here are awful....and I have NEVER said that about any other place I have stayed. Usually there is some mitigating factor, but not here! Our room, no. 7, had paint flaking from the walls, in fact the paint in the bathroom was SLOUGHING off the wall....a large patch just pulling down!!! In the bed section there was... More

As many other reviewers will report the hotel is trapped in the 80's. Wood chip wallpaper, pictures that are faded with 1986 date stamp, curtains with patterns, pine furniture and stained wood doors, skirtings and facings.Even some of the music played and on repeat included 1980's Dire Straits Walk of Life. (This sounds like one of the cottages at Summerlee... More

We stayed during Whisky Festival week. Lauren and her staff were excellent and very accommodating. The bar has a great selection of Islay whisky. The hotel is dated and in dire need of updating. We stayed in room 5 the first 2 nights. Room 5 overlooks the street. Room 5 was quite and pleasant. The next 2 nights we stayed... More

Stayed for a few nights during the whisky festival, the busiest week of the year on Isaly. Very friendly staff, and good enough food and service. Beatifully located resturant, right on the Loch Indaal shore. Given the size of the village, our expectations were met and a bit more. Also, its under new management so the refurnish might just happen... More

My wife and daughter have dined here several times but today was my first visit. Well impressed by the location and the decor and would love to wake up looking over that loch from a lodge! Afternoon tea was the best I've found in Scotland and yes, we've tried quite a few as my other reviews will relate. The restaurant... More

Evening meal with spectacular view across Loch Indaal was spoiled by extremely slow service and an hour wait for our main course. This place is a busy tourist destination and there were clearly not enough staff in the kitchen or the waitresses were inexperienced. Food was okay but unexplained delays spoiled it. No surprise that the other restaurants in town... More

Ordered a takeaway from this place and will never be ordering again.... 1. Food took almost an hour 2. Chicken burgers were freezing in the middle with water pouring out of them 3. Chicken goujons werent cooked, batter was cooked on the outside but raw in the middle 4. Onion rings were dripping in grease and again batter was cooked... More

I stayed at the Lochside for 2 nights just after Christmas. It has the feel of a family run hotel and the staff were all excellent. This is not a luxury hotel, if you want that go to the Port Charlotte Hotel, but why would you go to beautiful Islay looking for luxury? The hotel has a great location in... More

Staff were lovely, especially in the bar where we enjoyed a few whiskys one evening. However, the room was very small and in desperate need of a makeover. Bathroom was exceptionally small and very shabby. Has a lot of potential this place, but needs a good refurb. Dining room excellent with views over the bay, and the breakfast was excellent.
