The reviews have been mixed and it confuses me. We had our wedding reception at the hotel and all I have heard from the guests who all stayed for two nights is positive things. A number are already working out when they can go back! Maybe we were lucky as "big spenders" but I find that very hard to believe.... more

I'ved stayed in this hotel a couple of times now and it just gets better and better. I saw the recent really bad negative reviews and was worried as I had booked a Lakeside Terrace Room - when previously I had stayed in a refurbished Standard Room. Yes, the Lakeside room hasn't been refurbished but there was nothing wrong with... more

My girlfriend and I went to stay at the lake hotel last week for a long weekend. The food there is probably the best that I have tasted all year, combined with very good and friendly service. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished bedrooms which was very good value I have to say. Will be returning next year... more

The public areas of the hotel have been freshly refurbished, but be careful to ask for a refurb'ed room when you book. The ones which aren't yet re-done look worse compared to the lovely public areas. Food excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. Great views of lake from restaurant. more

After booking this hotel, I read some of the comments on this site and was a bit worried about staying there. I can honestly say I was amazed at the standard of the hotel as soon as I walked in the door, the place was spotless and we were welcomed warmly, we were given the guided tour and the views... more

Okay, lets get straight to the point - this hotel is awful. I booked a room in this hotel for my wife and I having seen the hotels website. For a hotel that is run by Nick Nairn the place is awful. The room was run down, dirty, carpet in the bathroom, stains in the bath.....simply horrible with a very... more

Our staff were as polite and helpfull as possible to this guest. The guest chose not to stay and we did not charge them. Nick Nairn is not involved with this hotel and nowhere do we suggest he is.

My wife and I booked the hotel for our wedding anniversary. We checked the website first and all looked excellent. Tranquil picturesque surroundings, great food, lake side terrace room. On arrival the hotel looked great, the reception, bar and restaurant have been well refurbished and looked beautiful. The bedroom, a "Lake terrace Room" with our own terrace overlooking the lake... more

Readers could be forgiven for being a bit confused with the dramatically different levels of customer satisfaction here. We have, in the last two weeks just completed a two year renovation of this waterfront hotel with all standard rooms just relaunched. This follows the complete refurbishment of the bar, lounges, restaurant, reception, exterior and behind the scenes over this period....

The web photos (October 07) look good. The hotel is beautifully situated. The main public rooms are great. However the room (number 7) was 'tired' and badfly needed some tlc. Cracked basin, - chairs with some bad marks on them. The hotel will be going through a refurbishment at the end of the season but to what extent I do... more

We stayed at the Lake Hotel at the end of July and what a great experience it turned out to be. The food was fabulous. Fresh fish and local beef, that was one of the best steaks I have ever tasted. We stayed in a standard room, which although a bit dated, but the manager told us that they are... more

Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay here. Perfect for away from it all relaxation. We had just returned form South of France with the family and my husband and I just wanted a night away on our own. We stayed in Menteith room with doors leading out to patio and view on to lake. Found the staff courteous and helpful. Was... more
