Waitress and cleanliness could not be faulted. Prices where reasonable but the food wasn't anything special. Our starters where good, I had pakora and my boyfriend had tomato soup. The main meals where a complete miss. I'm convinced my enchiladas where microwaved and my boyfriends meal was underwhelming (chicken and mushroom pie). The salad was drenched in dressing which always... More

This was accommodation before a family funeral . So pleased with the booking girl, manager and others who made my stay . The room was huge with a super kingsize and a double for my little one . Would recommend this hotel , parking is easy for a disabled person like myself and myself and my child were made welcome... More

The managing directors claim in their welcoming note that “we pride ourselves on our ability to make your stay as relaxing and as memorable as possible.” Memorable it certainly was, but not, I fancy, in the way that Anne and Jack Peters were thinking. Getting in: the swing doors are too narrow to negotiate easily with a suitcase in each... More

Stayed overnight and staff were warm, friendly and efficient. En suite room was clean, bright and spacious. Although our request for a 9am wake up call did not happen, we were given a later check out time and the kitchen got us some breakfast sorted even though it was near midday when we got downstairs. A lovely stay, a very... More

We have just returned from another fabulous stay at the Royal hotel, booked for 6 people, staff were fantastic again, very friendly and attentive, our 3rooms were on the first floor, excellent as one of our friends could use the old fashioned lift to save him using stairs, rooms very spotless and beds were very comfy, we all had a... Stayed 2 nights at this old fashioned hotel. It was acceptably clean, but ned some modernization. The service was great during a breakfast that had all the British specialties you wanted. The bar ok. The hotel is probably most frequently used for party events.

Yes it is an old building, but it could really do with a bit of modernisation. (This is a review for the Royal Hotel, not Royal Ivy, I know both establishments as I'm from this area). The room (31) was large as was the bathroom. But the double bed was 2 divan's pushed together, both different divans. The carpet was... More

Considering Chopin, Robert Louie Stevenson, and Charles Dickens have stayed here, it can be forgiven for having a few creaky floorboards and damp patches. The building could be doing with a bit of upgrading, but hopefully not to lose any of the character of the place. The menu was basic, but tasty. The service on reception was very good, with... More

Stayed in Room 12 at the Ivy and the bedroom windows didnt shut, no latch on the window meant the two panes couldnt close and kept banging in the wind. I eventually rang reception at 2am and staff simply handed me gaffer tape and scissors to tape the panes shut !! Breakfast was also mediocre. I stayed here some time... More
