Tip: book a table in advance! The place was packed for Sunday lunch. Staff were superb, if there was a lull you could see them glancing around proactively looking for things they could do to help. Spotlessly clean. Food was lovely - everyone cleared their plate at every course! Minor quibbles with several specials being off without being warned in... More

The food was tremendous - no other word for it! This hotel deserves six or seven stars for the kitchen alone - it's a shame it isn't just a restaurant The room (Room 6) was too noisy; loud laughter and shouting from the beer "garden" - a first floor patio - until nearly midnight on Saturday meant a really poor... We were on our way back from a long, hot day in Edinburgh and were needing somewher to have an evening meal. Stopped in Biggar in the off road parking area and saw the Elphinstone Hoptel - not the best looking building, but after a look at the menu board outside we decided to enter. Its much bigger than it... More

A bit dated which is reflected in the rooms. Comfortable enough but could go with a makeover - staff were generally helpful and pleasant. Food was ok in the evening but breakfast was not so good. Would probably consider other places if I came back to Biggar but hopefully they take on board these comments and look to improve.

Once you see past the exterior of the hotel the accommodation is excellent. The bar has just been renovated and was beautiful. The room was huge and very clean. The toilet would benefit from a net curtain cause if you didn't draw the blind down all the time you could see outside into the garden. Overall very good and would... More

After having to make a last minute booking, managed to book in here and even managed to check-in early in order to make it to another engagement. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating both at check-in and during breakfast. Room was comfortable and very clean with a nice big bathroom however the walls are quite thin and you can... More

Only stayed the one night but wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food and service was first class. The hotel has probably seen better days and could do with a refurbishment but to be fair the place has character and does everything it needs for a 1 or 2 night stay, there... More

Room was tiny and dated. Front door would bang from 7am waking us up. Breakfast was extremely poor. Sausage, black pudding and haggis slices were halved and quartered! Potato scone was burnt. Tomato sauce was so watered down with vinegar that I couldn't eat it. Dirty plate and things floating in milk jug. Service was very poor. Young girls who... More

Much needed night away with my friend - using a deal for DB&B. Arrived and headed to room to find a lovely twin room which was very clean, and lovely touch with Arran Aromatics toiletries to use. A few cheeky drinks in the afternoon in the bar was very relaxing, and then off to dinner - in a lovely restaurant... More

We stayed at the Elphinstone for two nights while visiting Biggar for a wedding. There was adequate parking outside the hotel at all times which was very convenient. The hotel room that we were given was spotless and comfortable, small but fine for the price. The bathroom has a good shower. We had also booked a room for another couple... More
