Popped in for a meal, 6 adults and a 4 year old. One adult has shellfish allergy so we informed the waitress who was very knowledgeable. We all ordered our various dishes. Allergy sufferer had ordered onion rings but waitress pointed out they were fried in same frier as Scampi. She thanked the waitress for being so mindful but ordered... More

Many thanks for your great review. Delighted to help any of our customers that have allergy issues. Sorry about the mustard, not something we have been asked for before. Also very sorry about the gap on having your sweets delivered. This obviously shouldn't happen and I will bring to our teams attention. Robert Allen More

What a lovely, welcoming place. Arrived without booking, and we were given a lovely table for three adults, and two children. The meal was superb, as was the service. I had not been to Biggar for a meal in over 40 years, but will certainly be going back. Thank you for making my visit so pleasurable.

Was visiting a friend in Biggar and decided to stop for lunch before heading home. Had planned on a coffee and sandwich and spotted the Elphinstone and thought it looked nice. The bar/restaurant at the front of the hotel isn't large (although I believe there were more tables in another area) but it was like stepping back in time. A... More

Many thanks for you great review. Yes the fire is very welcoming in the winter. We have also added an amazing log burner to the other bar, which I like to think we have kept sympathetic to the overall character of the building and it is certainly the main thought whenever we undertake any improvements. There are many quirky things... More

We booked this hotel six months earlier, and the photos and description online seemed fine. We were just looking for a one night stay. The room we were allocated (room 2) was disappointing; clean, but very very basic and tired, not even a mirror in the bedroom, an ensuite that was so cramped that access to the wash basin was... Many thanks for your review. I am sorry our accommodation did not live up to your expectations. We are an 18th century coaching inn which has been adapted and modified many times over the years and even still we are modernizing as we go along. No two rooms are alike, and have been built over different time periods. Everybody's tastes... More

Came here for the gala day. Food was fab, however I felt the mixed grill was over priced for what you got on your plate, the pork and black pudding stack was absolutely delicious, service was great and staff couldn't have been any nicer. Will definitely come back again!

Many thanks for your great review. Sorry you felt the Mixed Grill was overpriced. It is generally very well received, perhaps our portion wasn't as generous as it normally is, not sure, but will certainly keep an eye on it. Again many thanks for your review, and look forward to seeing you soon. More

This is the first time that we have stayed at The Elph but it won't be the last. We were warmly welcomed and allocated well appointed and comfortable rooms. We decided to eat at The Elph and it was definitely the right decision. The only criticism of the menu was that it is so extensive that it is difficult to... More

Many thanks for your great review. I am delight that you enjoyed your special occasion and that you manged to indulge in a sweet also. I also love the flapjack stack, especially with some of our Taylors of Biggar Vanilla Ice Cream. A bit indulgent of me, but we are all allowed to treat ourselves occasionally!! More

Found this hotel by accident whilst looking for a parking space in Biggar - it had an open fire and as it was snowing this was just what was needed. Many thanks for you positive review. The open fire is always a real draw, always warm and inviting when our inclement weather demands it. Cleanliness is absolutely, and we take pride on the vast number of positive comments we receive in this regard. The hotel is a centuries old coaching inn and we try to bear this in mind when...
