The Elpinstone is a modest sized hotel, bar and restaurant located in the Main Street of Biggar through which the A702 runs, one of the major trunk roads connecting Edinburgh to the north to Carlisle to the south (via the A74). Parking is on the main street outide the hotel front door. Rooms are comfortable and most seem to have... More

My sister Maggie and I stayed here a couple of years ago when we decided to come back for the Biggar Bonfire and Hogmanay. We both grew up here but now I live in Canada and Maggie in the Dominican Republic. Robert and Janette could not have been more accommodating, they are great landlords. They even entrusted us with a... More

My wife and I have been here twice now and both times the food was decent, hot and great value, a meal for 2 with starters and 2 drinks each for less then £50! The staff are friendly and attentive and we always leave them a tip. Will be back in the new year,

Stayed here for two nights and have no complaints. A quaint place with old style charm. Our room was clean and well appointed. Super breakfast and friendly quick service. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. No complaints here, good value and would recommend. A big thanks from me.

Visited the Elph twice in November. Received a warm welcome and were directed to our reserved table near the open fireplace. The service was friendly and efficient and all three courses from a very good menu were beautifully prepared and presented. This was a great find and be visited now on a regular basis.

Myself and my husband recently stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for some chill time prior to the Christmas mayhem. Breakfast was lovely on both mornings and was served by friendly efficient staff. The bedroom was very comfortable and spacious. We had a fabulous sleep. It was our intention to dine in only one of the evenings as there... More

Stayed here with friends. Traditional old style hotel, well looked after. Rooms were spotless and had every thing catered for. Our party ate in the restaurant which was excellent, varied choice and excellent quality. Breakfast also was of the highest quality. Overall good value for money. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed for a Saturday nigh in November. It's just a room above a pub - and a very nice pub at that. Cosy with a fire and friendly staff. We checked in early and went off to a wedding. The room is basic - and a little tired looking but really clean. Bed was comfy, there was a TV... More

Many thanks for your kind review. We are continually refurbishing the hotel and the room you were in will receive attention very shortly. In the meantime we were not aware of an issue with the kettle, this has now been replaced. Along with the other businesses in the town, we try very hard to ensure the minimum of noise and... More

A very warm welcome awaited us - all staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were spotless and comfortable and food was delicious and plentiful. We were a group of eight friends who had a delightful stay and we'll be returning to this wee gem.
