I have chosen to write this somewhat negative review 6 months after our wedding as my wife and I first wanted to write to the owners of Shieldhill Castle to express our concerns and invite comment back. We received no acknowledgement of our balanced letter which contained thanks for the areas of service we felt were good as well as... more

We stayed in the Culloden room which had a stained carpet, no shower and no heating in the bathroom. A small electric heater was provided to heat the room. In the freezing cold lounge we decided to have scones and tea. There were no scones no home baking only some shop bought biscuits-what a shame. The dining room was "stone... more

The room was small and tired looking with both tea maker and shower(no bath) not functioning- shower dangerously so. The hotel boasts a speciality menu yet used an untrained(albeit pleasant lass) to take ordersi.e incapable of informing intending diners as to the composition of paticular dishes. Tho wine list boasts an extensive range of wines a good number of which... more

We booked the Shieldhill for a special weekend break which turned into a very disappointing experience. We arrived to find one member of staff covering reception, the bar and waitering on tables, our room was cold, the central heating was not working, the bedroom certainly looked very tired after asking for one of the nicer rooms and there were only 3... more

To begin with, i had heard a lot about the owners. Not a lot of positive comments may i had. These claims turned out to be true. As there was a shoot party in, i presume friends of the owners due to the warm hospitality towards them and blatant disregard towards us, we seemd to be generally ignored throughout our... more

I was lucky to get this room at a reduced price and, compared to other places I have stayed in it was lovely. I had booked a twin as I was travelling with my 12 year old son but was given a double - fortunately there were empty rooms so this was quickly changed. The new rooms in the Stables... more

We got this at a bargain rate, and this being the case found the hotel to be perfectly adequate although a special mention for the two duty staff on August 3rd, Will and a lady whose name I didn't get: they were superb. These two aside, as I say, the place was okay. What I should mention though (and maybe... more
