Baltasound is one of the most northerly hotels in the United Kingdom being located on the Shetland Island of Unst. We visited in Midsummer and experienced the strange phenomenon of 24 hour daytime. Up here, they call it "Simmer Dim". It did get very dim for about two hours around 12-2 am but it really was light for the rest... More

Stayed here two night exploring Unst. At first I was disappointed by the exterior: wooden chalets which could use some fresh paint. But the room itself is good: clean, nice beds, wifi, tv, nice (but small) shower. The food in the restaurant is very good and affordabble, the staff is very friendly.

Our room was in one of the chalet-style single storey buildings grouped round a small courtyard with small steps leading up to a wooden terrace at the front. There were 3 rooms in the building. We had a small but cosy pine-panelled room, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The bathroom was compact but well-equipped (tho a hairdryer would have been appreciated!)... More

This hotel is the most northerly in the UK. The rooms are comfortable and acceptable. Ours was one of those in the main building but still designed along the principles of a chalet style. The food is locally sourced and plenteous. Important to book evening meals, even if staying, since places to eat are limited on Unst. Breakfasts are equally... More

The hotel is essentially a large building with a garden, around which are a number of what could be referred to as cabins...butlins style, I would say, but quite comfortable and clean. You do have to remember this is a very remote area.... no Holiday inns here. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food is very good especially... More

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel in the most northerly village in the UK - it certainly feels a long way from anywhere. The staff are incredibly friendly and worked hard to ensure people enjoyed their stay. The room was large with a big bathroom - I suspect it was the "mobility impaired" room. Just one problem -... Enjoyed our dinner at the hotel, food was good although one of our party had to return his duck breast as this was uncooked and too tough to eat. Staff did replace this with a different selection of salmon. Good value for money though!

We spent four days at the Balatsound hotel in May with dinner each evening. This is a simple hotel in a remote area that does all the important things very well. The owners and staff were helpful at all times and are just nice friendly people. Our room was clean and comfortable. Three or four choices of fresh fish were... More

Stayed here last week as part of a Tour group. I had a little log cabin to myself and it was perfect. The location is fantastic with outstanding views all around. Food was very good and the staff and service was excellant. Will definitely stay again.

This hotel is fine - especially given its location - but we did not get the super service which other reviewers mentioned. Rooms in the chalets are OK and some work was in progress to smarten up. Small though. Food was quite good - but very slow in being prepared. We had booked dinner at 7.30 and arrived in the... More
