Naive, maybe but we thought there may have been more around us apart from fields. Hotel furnished in dated seventies style wood and textiles. Very clean, tidy with lovely bathroom. All staff extremely helpful and made us feel relaxed. Then....we tried the food. I have never had such wonderful fayre in my life! The Cullen Skink was thick and creamy... More

We would admit to being sceptical when we arrived, as the accommodation is rather basic, though adequate and very clean. However, by the end of the stay the very friendly service and the quality of the food had converted us - we loved the place and were sorry to leave! Can't agree with the reviewer who criticised the breakfast -... More

First time on Unst and in Shetland. Stayed in a cabin which although small was comfortable, well equipped and suited our needs. The stand-out were the meals. My wife and I had 2 of the best evening meals we have had anywhere in the world we have been. This includes the USA, Europe, and Asia. They were outstanding. If on... More

To be honest, when on Unst one has a very limited choice when it comes to accommodation. The Baltasound Hotel is not cheap but "Does the job" but with very little extra. All staff we met were friendly and most helpful. It describes itself wonderfully on its website, especially the very "Cheffy" descriptions and photos of food. The reality is... More

This is the northernmost hotel in Britain, so we thought we'd spend a few nights there during our recent trip to Shetland. While the accommodation is nothing to write home about, it's perfectly adequate, and we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The main highlight, however, was the food, which is in a different league from the... More

We live in Shetland and go once or twice a year for a weekend break. Stayed in the hotel itself this time and it was lovely. Had previously only stayed in the cabins which are also comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming, breakfast and evening meals were really good. We're vegetarians and the chef always goes out of his way... More

We travelled as part of a group of 14. My husband and I brought our 2-year-old son. The hotel made us feel very welcome and made it so easy to travel with a child. The food was excellent. The members of the staff were very polite and helpful. The rooms were great and the surroundings were very calm. We will... More

The rooms are more survival-mode huts than grand hotel, but they have all the comforts one needs and the beds, especially, are nice and comfy. The food is seriously good and generous and we found the service charming. Prices are a tad high, but then again, it is an isolated place and probably needs to import a lot of the... More

We stayed in a very spacious cabin next door to friends who were travelling with us. The room was huge, clean and very warm. The food was wonderful and the breakfast is the best I have had at any hotel ever! We go several times a year and are never disappointed.

Situated just outside of Baltasound, in Unst, the northernmost island in Shetland, the Baltasound hotel offers great service, rooms and food. The rooms are very atmospheric in a log cabin style, and each have their own small porch. The location of the hotel itself is great, not too far away from Haroldswick, where you can find the Viking longboat, heritage... More
