When we were looking for accomodation in the northwestern part of Scotland's coast, this turned up to be the cheapest non-hostel choice in our research. So, we were actually expecting the basics. Bed, a breakfast, and hot water. I have stayed several times in B&Bs and as everybody knows you never know what to expect, it can easily be a... More

We didn't stay here but I wanted to say somethong about the food as we ate there but this place is not listed as a restau. Tom is a bit of an eccentric so if you're looking for a traditional meal with menu etc go elsewhere. He seems to just make it up depending on what he has in the... More

Okay, there are definitely accomodations with newer interior, but even though the rooms of the older building may not be up to date (or shall I say BECAUSE of this) - there are few B&Bs with more flair and charming character. As we arrived late at night without having made a reservation, we were astonished to find this B&B illuminated.... More

My friend and I decided we would travel around Scotland for two weeks and we planned to stay around in Sheildaig for 1 night, but stayed 2 and would have happily stayed more. We had such an amazing stay at Rivendell. Some of the decor was slightly tired, but that was more than made up for by the great sea... More

Tom, the keeper, was very welcoming, and a funny nut. The common room was very cosy, with a fire in the fire place, and good comfy leather chairs. The room was a bit tired, and lacked charm, the bathroom was less than average. Worn down and a bit smelly. The breakfast was god. We payed £60 for one night, and... More

I spent 5 weeks staying with Marilyn and Tommy for a GP placement, I'm a medical student. I stayed in a twin room in the older part of the house and it was very comfortable, they even provided me with a desk for my studies! The view out of the window was unbeatable, the sunset over the island every night... More

Though it was reasonable value (we paid £30), the room was pretty shabby. The ensuite was 'unfinished' with parts unpainted, tiling incomplete and no panel covering under the shower tray. To access the room, we had to go round the back of the house through the back garden which can only be described as a tip with junk lying everywhere... More

Reading the other excellent reviews its hard to believe we stayed in the same place! That said, to ensure a fair review I should state up front that 4 of us stayed in the original part of the house and not the newish extension. So if you really have to stay there make sure they are NOT accomodating you in... More

From previous reviews Rivendell would seem to be a bit of a 'love it' or 'hate it' property. I'm afraid I fell in the hate it camp. The owners were friendly throughout most of our stay and the location was great. However, they did not react well when we questioned the quality of the rooms. We were given rooms in... More

My mountain biking friends and I stayed at the Rivendell last weekend. The location is excellent. The owners seemed nice enough. Breafast was ok. We got 3 rooms looking out to the front of the building which had great views but inside the rooms were dirty, damp and very run down. The stairs felt like they were about to collapse... More
