Looks a pleasing hotel at first sight, needs attention to small detail. Mattressess need replacing. Analogue TV in room. No proper shower only rubber shower head attached to taps. Chef needs to taste food before sending out. All double rooms taken so had twin room not a problem, but a little pricey at £95 per night for slight inconvienence -... more

I have stayed in many hotels from scotland to australia and can honestly say that the room and ensuite my husband and I were allocated in this hotel were the dirtiest I have ever encountered. Myself, my husband, mum and aunt booked 2 nights here. The booking was for one double and one twin, both en-suite. Mum and aunt travelled... more

The location of the hotel has great potential but the hotel itself was a great disappointment. The hotel badly needs major up-grading, unfortunately the prices do not reflect this - very overpriced. Given the location this should be an excellent location for a short break, but this hotel does not do credit to the beautiful village of Cromarty. more

We had been to the Royal Hotel twice before, but it had been seven years since our last visit, so I checked the reviews on Trip Advisor, which weren't encouraging! We booked anyway, because we love Cromarty and were planning to visit Culloden, which was reasonably nearby. The hotel had changed hands since we last visited, and I would say... more

This hotel is in a marvellous setting by the harbour in Cromarty, but staying there was such a disappointment. I stayed at the Royal during one of the coldest weekends of the year. I knew it was going to be cold when I entered the room and it was cold despite there being a convector heater which was on. This... more

We stayed here for 1 night in June this year as we needed an overnight stop on our way north. Ok, so it was wet but it was June tho inside it may as well have been November - this was the coldest, draughtiest place you can imagine & the attitude of the staff matched the temperature. The only plus... more

We spent four nights at The Royal earlier this month. I agree with the previous reviewer that the location is excellent but the hotel needs upgrading. I understand it is currently up for sale so that is probably why the present owners are reluctant to spend money on it which is a shame as it could be really stunning. The... more

The hotel is in an excellent spot, the view out to sea kept us entertained throughout our stay. The hotels public rooms had charactor and charm but the bedrooms are in need of upgrading. The bathroom was across the hall, yet was advertised as ensuite. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was lovely. Think a bit pricey for the... more

Pleasant location next to the harbour in a fascinating georgian town that at one time was really thriving. Nice decent sized room overlooking the front. Bit odd that bathroom was across corridor rather than in room but it was a private bathroom and whilst quirky did not present any real issue. Good well cooked to order breakfast. Clean and tidy... more

Unfortunately we didn’t think it was anywhere near as good as other reviews suggest. Good points are a lovely and quiet location, nice residents lounge, a great breakfast and friendly proprietors and staff. Bad points are a mattress so old, ridged and uncomfortable that it was like trying to sleep in two wheelbarrows side by side. Some electric outlets in... more
