Have hostelled/camped/camper van holidays for over 40 years but would be hard to find anything like Chalmersquoy.A kind welcome from the owner, a query if we would like to stay on the campsite or go to the seaview at the front which we did, amazing kitchen facilities all spotless and seals 2 minutes from the door.A real treasure on a... We are a group of four with extensive experience of hostel/bed and breakfast accommodation in Scotland. The standard of the facilities at the Barn is excellent and the attention provided by Michael and Teenie is second to none. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were quite happy to provide transport and by prior arrangement food for packed lunches.... More

The room was clean and comfortable and had an ensuite, which was a great bonus for a hostel! Roof window, so unable to see the view from the room. Very effective blackout blind meant a good nights sleep. Very large lounge area across from the top floor room, with a tv and a good view of the sea. Plenty of... More

Can't fault this delightful place. The minibus from the ferry dropped us at the door. As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome, shown around the facilities, advised where to get the best fish & chips, and invited to a community concert in the wonderfully named Graand Auld Byre...a cowshed tastefully converted to a mini concert hall,... We were cycle touring Orkney and camped at The Barn for 2 nights. We were met with a lovely welcome by Teenie who showed us around the facilities and explained about the area. The camping area is superb and they also have a campers kitchen with all cooking facilities you could ask for. A good shower is something you need... More

We spent three wonderful day here. It is an excellent conversion of former farm buildings with very comfortable rooms and a very good kitchen facility. Other facilities are all very good indeed too. What sets it apart from most is the outstanding service and friendliness of the hosts, Michael and Teenie. Nothing is too much trouble and all help is... More

I spent two nights staying in the hostel at The Barn - there are also campsites, and private rooms, plus they were currently in the midst of creating a bed and breakfast part! I was in a two bed room that had extremely comfortable bunk beds that did not squeak - that in itself is quite impressive! The bathroom is... More

Very friendly and helpful people, beautiful site on a wonderful island. The facilities include a well-equipped campers' kitchen with a cooker, fridge, table, chairs, pans, crockery and cutlery; there is also access to an iron, ironing board, hair drier. The prices are very (too) cheap. One of the country's best shops for wet and fried fish is just round the... More

The Barn is beautifully situated with views over the bay. Accommodation consists of self catering apartment, hostel rooms and camp/caravan site. The facilities (camper's kitchen, toilets and shower are clean and well equipped. The owners, Michael and Teenie Harcus, are welcoming and go out of their way to be helpful. Ideal for a short or longer stay and handy for... More

Lovely warm welcome from Michael and Teenie. Our motorhome was a little heavy for the regular grass camping area, so they gave us the best of alternatives - at the front of The Barn overlooking Pierowall Bay and watched by inquisitive seals. It wasn't necessary to step outside to watch the wonderful sunsets over the bay, but we did! Westray... More
