My wife and I have just returned from a fortnight's trip to Shetland, Orkney and Edinburgh, and we stayed at the Ferry Inn for a couple of nights. Fundamentally, it's a pub and, like many pubs, it needs a lick of paint and can get a little smelly. It happens to be a pretty good pub; we spent one fantastic... more

Tired from the train from London to Thurso (almost 14 hours) and a quick taxi ride, we were comforted by the convenience and amenities at the Ferry Inn. Our room must have been recently renovated. We were able to watch the fishing boats, walk up near the lighthouse, and generally calm down before going to bed -- still in light... more

We chose the Ferry Inn after reading rave reviews in two guide books. On first encounter it looked pretty dodgy and rundown and for the most part it is. Don't let the fact you enter through the busiest pub we saw anywhere in Scotland scare you because our room (no.11) was actually newly renovated and very clean. Make sure you... more

We didn't stay at the Ferry Inn but chose it for an evening meal. The whole building is in need of redecoration; outside the paint was peeling off the walls and the bar/restaurant was dingy giving an uncared for look. The menu is quite extensive, which is a worry as it suggests much of the food is frozen rather than... more

I stayed at the Ferry Inn for 2 nights in early October 2006. The Inn is a pub with rooms upstairs. The pub is very popular with locals, particularly younger people. I did not feel particularly comfortable visiting the bar but not because there was anything wrong with it, just that I was alone and most people there seemed to... more

I've not stayed as I live just up the road, but called here for dinner in April 2006. The fish pie was sightly fishy, dry mashed potato, not a single piece of fish. Served with chips! I did complain, but it was obvious the most senior person there was the poor waitress who appeared to have just started. I paid... more

I have been to the Ferry Inn several times, and it is definitely one of my favorite spots in the UK. The rooms are small but nice; try to request the top floor room with if possible. The services is really the best part - the owner is lovely and the bar/restaurant downstairs is lively and fun with some unexpected... more
