Early in June we spent four nights at the Stromness Hotel. I loved it at first sight, a beautiful old building very close to the ferry terminal (but then, everything in Stromness is close to the ferry terminal!) I did not have a reservation and profited form a very good walk in B&B offer, that the Hotel offered. The rooms and the entire hotel offered a truly enjoyable and grand experience. We did not book we just turned up. We were very surprised at the top quality meal we had here. The steaks were very good quality. We will eat here again if we ever go back to Orkney. We would recommend that you eat here if you are looking for good food. more

We ate at the Stromness hotel one lunchtme in August. The Greek salad was expensive and consisted of lettuce, five cubes of feta and five olives. The bread (which cost extra) was white sliced of an inferior quality - and my husband's fish and chips was also dissappointing. The waitress did take my salad and return it with more olives... more

I have stayed at the Stromness Hotel many times over the past six years. The fabric of the building needs some attention and the decor needs updating but I have always been made to feel very welcome by the management and staff and never had a bad meal here (and I am a caterer so quite picky!). The Stromness has a wonderful chef & dinner was very good & reasonable. The room was tired, no internet, but the garden view was pleasant. But the Orbitz rate was 30% than booking directly. We had dinner here. Some of the worst food I've had eating out, and the ingredients were definitely not local. Maybe from the local supermarket? The hotel looks charming from the outside but once you step through the front doors you are confronted by nothing but a dirty, tired old hotel. Stayed here on an overnight trip to the Orkney Isles, which I will visit again as they are beautiful.
