We had a splendid stay at Burnside farm in the Orkney and would return. Joy was a wonderful host with good information about the area and the breakfast was delicious. The room was comfortable and the ensuite shower was just fabulous!

We had 2 very comfortable nights at Burnside, we had the North room which was not en suit but had exclusive use of the beautifully appointed bathroom next door, this room doesn't have views over the harbour, however the views from the guests conservatory are excellent as was Joy's hospitality with tea and home baking on arrival. The breakfast was... More

Only booked for the one night as passing through Stromness, beautiful comfortable room and bed, wonderful shower, home made shortbread in the room was delicious. Breakfast was everything I would want at home, well done for providing extremely high quality fresh food. Joy, the hostess, was a delight to talk with. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We were looking for a place to stretch out our holiday, and this was a great choice. Hugely welcoming owner with home made cakes and biscuits, comfy beds and a good breakfast. An easy walk into Stromness in the evening for a meal and a beer, and well situated on the road to Kirkwall.

We were looking for somewhere to stretch our holiday for a couple of extra days; we couldn't have found a nicer place. The owner was hugely welcoming with home-made cakes and biscuits, the bed was comfortable and the breakfasts (communal table) were great. The B&B is close enough to make an easy walk into Stromness in the evening for a... More

Burnside Farm is run by lovely, helpful and friendly hosts who are Stromness locals. The location is superb, high above the town with views of the harbour and Hoy beyond. We had a great room with a comfortable bed, excellent shower and modern en-suite facilities. Breakfasts were brilliant, including home-made bread, haggis and smoked salmon. We especially enjoyed walking down... More

Beautiful views over Stromness from the conservatory breakfast room and from the bedrooms bar one. Excellent breakfasts, comfortable room, we had the one without the view, lovely, friendly hostess and lovely cows all around. Just a short stroll down to the town and harbour and the bus to Kirkwall passes the gate. Perfect.

Lovely room, fabulous bathroom, bedding wonderful & snuggly. Easy walking from Stromness if you want a drink. Tasty breakfast. Chocolate eclairs in room which pleased my hubby !! We had good chat with other two couples as there is one breakfast table for six. They do not mind you bringing intake always to the breakfast room.

A wonderful B&B! I agree with all previous comments about the view, the location, and Joy's warm and welcoming hospitality. Her breakfasts are AMAZING. We didn't eat any other meals whilst on Orkney; just had bread and cheese with our tea because Joy cooked up such a fabulous start to our days. Locally sourced dairy (of course), delicious rhubarb and... More

Burnside Farm was perfect for our one-night stay in Stromness before taking the morning ferry back to the mainland. Set on a hill above the harbour it has beautiful views and is only a short walk away from places to eat dinner. Try Joy's special porridge and the bannock buns made from bere - a traditional form of barley that... More
