Unfortunately we only had 48 hours for the Orkneys, arriving and leaving via ferry, so it were only two nights we could spend in Jan's place. Though we had only the "single room" - Jan had warned us in advance that it was too small to be classified as a double room! - it was a perfect stay! Stylish, comfortable,... more

Holland house is marvellous! Jan is a friendly and helpful host. We arrived during a very rainy evening with the Australian flag outside. Jan greeted us very warmly and we instantly felt right at home. She prepared tea and biscuits for us each night, with our last night enjoyting some Highland Park Whisky. Breakfast was very extensive and excellent. Our... more

This was my second visit within a year to Holland House. The standards are still as incredibly high. Perfect welcome, hospitality, cleanliness, comfort, breakfast quality and choice, and attention to detail. Splendid situation, views and sense of tranquility - all in one of the most central and accessible locations for all the attractions of West Mainland. more

We have just spent 3 nights in Holland house before enduring a further 2 nights in an alledged 4 star hotel only a few miles away in Kirkwall . If ever you want the contrast between personalised wonderfully attentive customer care and total indifference nay disdain we experienced them both , Holland House was SUPERB --- and our 4 *... more

Treat yourself and stay here. Beautiful 5 star accommodation with lovely garden and elegant decor. Jan warmly welcomed us and John raised an American flag--now that's a special welcome! I so enjoyed the complimentary sherry, reading in front of the cozy coal fire in the lovely sitting room. Breakfast was an elegant treat, with home-made breads and spreads. I would... more

Jan and John Stockan are the most hospitable hosts you could wish to find; friendly, warm and informative . They also provide a five star service in terms of comfort and elegance that puts many a bigger and "swankier" establishment to shame. And Jan's rhubarb jam is to die for. Thank you! more

This beautiful house is a place where every detail is taken care of. You definitely feel pampered with the delicious home cooking, tea and fudge by the fireside in the evening and even a decanter of sherry in the bedroom. This was our luxurious stay, as the rest of our trip was on a much stricter budget. The setting is... more

We booked for 6 nights - and never regretted our decision for one moment. Jan and John were superb hosts making us feel at home from the word 'go'. Facilities are spotless and Jan's meals just something else. Holland House is only 15-20 mins. from almost all the important sites in Orkney - archaeology, birds, stunning coastal scenery ..... more

We stayed here in December 2005, originally booked for 2 nights at the start of our 2 week holiday in the Orkney Islands but we loved it so much we stayed a third night, then came back for our last night on Orkney too! It's on the Orkney Mainland close to the Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe so well sited... more
