We chose this hotel because it had been so highly recommended in guide books and we were not disappointed. Although our room was a bit small and simply furnished, the beds were comfortable and it was clean. We were surprised there weren't tea-making facilites in the room, but we soon found that we could have drinks on request. The two... more

Woodwick House offers utter relaxation, which is why we keep returning. Its idyllic setting by the mill stream, with ancient dovecote and a woodland walk leading to the shore, is perfectly peaceful. The informality and warm, friendly welcome make you feel as though you're staying with friends. The large en-suite double room, which we always have, has enticing views over... more

have been bringing my small groups to Woodwick House since the mid 90's and absolutely love it there. Magnificent quiet location near the bay and on a lovely burn (small stream) with a carpet of bluebells in May, followed by beautiful fuschia bushes. Wonderful breakfasts included in the cost and dinners which are extra. James is the manager there and... more

We arrived at this hiddenaway hotel and were welcomed warmly with tea in one of the lounges which had a wonderful view of the garden and the sea. We stayed two nights and loved it. It is not like a normal hotel; it is like going back in time and staying in an English country house with an overgrown garden,... more

With a late booking, we stayed in the twin room and to be fair to the owner, were advised that we would be sharing a bathroom. However, what we didn't know was that we would be sharing the bathroom, which had one bath with a shower attachment over it, with 7 (SEVEN) other people. To add to our discomfort, our... more

We were terribly disappointed with this place. We arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon, soaked to the bones due to a heavy rainshower, only to find the place totally abandoned. It is not even recognizable from the outside that Woodwick is a hotel. We waited for an approximate hour, left a note and then headed off again which... more

Woodwick House is tucked away in Evie, about15 minutes from Kirkwall and 20 minutes from Stromness. It is really centrally located for access to all. There is a bus stop at the end of the lane that will take you into Kirkwall. Cars and cyclists find it easily. It is a small country house hotel that will lodge only 12... more

Quirky, bohemian little hotel in a beautiful rural location in Orkney (not that there are a lot of non-rural locations in Orkney, to be fair). The service was laidback but very friendly, although it took us a little while to realise that if we needed to speak to a member of staff we had to stick our heads around the... more

A very basic B&B, We had booked a late evening and were only offer a bowl of soup. A shared bathroom straight out of the 1960's down the corridor. The 60's/70's theme was maintained in the bedroom with cheap old white painted furniture. Orkney has a lot better to offer than this. Limited choice for breakfast. more

If you are travelling on Mainland Orkney, don't miss this wonderful bed and breakfast. They are within easy driving distance of all the towns on the island and the location is lovely. We had two rooms for 4 days and were sorry to leave. The gardens, the clean and comfortable rooms, the friendly owners and the FANTASTIC food for dinner... more
