We were very tired when we arrived and were shown to our rooms, all initially seemed good. When it came to the shower we were very dissapointed that the water did not drain well at all. Not nice to stand up to your ankles in luke warm soapy water ! I unplugged the kettle in order to plug in the... More

Ate here for tea the previously Sunday as a table of three, and it was outstanding. Best Orkney haddock I've had in Orkney so far, and NOTHUNG was a problem for he excellent chefs. Even asked for the salad in a side plate, as well as the chips, and this was easily done. Excellent waitor and and excellent location

Our party of five stayed two nights at the Smithfield Hotel, as part of our Scottish Road Trip. Although we arrived late due to the ferry crossing we were met with a smile and they had prepared a meal for us on arrival. Rooms excellent. Service from Ivy and the staff of the hotel was excellent. The food in the... More

Three of us stayed overnight at the Smithfield Hotel Dounby Orkney on Saturday 30th August as a start to a short touring holiday in Orkney. Dounby is a small village ideally placed for touring the North of mainland Orkney or for enjoying the fishing at Loch Harray which is only minutes away by car. The staff are friendly, welcoming and... More

Stayed for 3 nights. Room very comfortable and the Restaurant excellent. Will definitely be back. A superb location to explore the island. Made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You certainly need more than 3 days to explore this fascinating spot . Will book for at least a week next time.

Great location - we rented a car, and were never more than a half hour from everything on the island. It's located outside of Kirkwall, so there's minimal to do if you're on foot, but we managed to see pretty much everything during our two-day stay on the island. The room was comfortable, the bed was a bit soft, which,... More

This is the perfect location for seeing the majority of historical sites on Orkney. The hotel is situated on the corner of an intersection that works from any approach. We arrived very early (9AM from an early flight from Shetland) and asked if we could eat breakfast and leave luggage. Both were easily agreed to by the owner. The male... More

This hotel is friendly and comfortable and the breakfasts are an absolute feast. The rooms smell a little of damp but that is probably an occupational hazard in an old, stone-built building on a rain-swept Island in the far north. You could not find a better spot for exploring the wonderful neolithic sites of Orkney

This hotel serves meals for non-residents in both the restaurant and the bar. They have two menus (Restaurant and Bar) - however you can choose from either wherever you sit. Both the quality of the food and the service were very good indeed. A nice range of Fresh Local Fish Available
