So glad we chose to stay here for our two nights on Hoy. Tam and Maureen are the perfect hosts. Maureen's cooking is worth the stay alone! Portions are generous. Breakfast certainly sets you up for the day. Dinner was equally good (I agree with another reviewer about the chips).

Stromabank Hotel is an absolute gem that I couldn't recommend highly enough. Although it looks a little grim from the outside (the building used to be the local school) it is extremely comfortable inside. Our room was simply furnished, but had everything we needed and was oh, so comfortable...we really appreciated the screens on the windows, which, despite the very... More

We visited for a meal when staying on Hoy and have stayed at the Stromabank on previous occasions and have never been disappointed. Maureen and Tam are such wonderful welcoming hosts and nothing is too much trouble. If only all hotels were like this and all owners so accommodating! The food is wonderful. Local produce cooked to perfection by Maureen.... More

The hotel is also a local bar and this helped make our 2 day stay even better. As mentioned previously, Maureen is a great cook and all the food we had was excellent. If you are having the cooked breakfast, I would recommend that you don't fill up on cereal etc unless you have a really big appetite. The breakfast... More

The Stromabank is a very good location to explore Hoy. Quiet and ideally situated to enjoy a relaxing vacation on the island. Maureen cooks for her guests with the attention which makes Scottish hospitality so unique.

Ate here twice during a short stay on Hoy in Orkney. The views - even on a wild summer evening were to die for - but Maureen's cooking was even more mouth-wateringly wonderful! The mackerel pâté, the mushrooms, the fish, the scampi, the steaks - all super-delicious!! And the chips were the best in the land!! Good to be in... More

We stayed here with friends this Easter and can highly recommend it to anyone that happens to find themselves in this part if the world! Our rooms were a good size and well kitted out. The bar stocks a range of local beers, which was great for us! However, the best feature by far was the view from the dining... More

I've stayed at Stromabank twice now and always had a great time. I arrived the first time a total stranger but was greeted like the proverbial country cousin. Although travelling alone that trip I was shown to a spacious twin room. It was nicely decorated. Facilities like tea/coffee/tv/storage etc all beautifully presented. The ensuite was large by hotel standards and... More

Went to this hotel for a meal while on a visit to Longhope with our family. Meal was OK. Owner firstly complained we were early for our booking, 20 Minutes at most, nobody else in restaurant anyway, but said had booking before us that had not turned up still that he had to deal with first. Did not show us... More
