Comfortable and tastefully furnished room with sea view, good safe parking. Pleasant resteraunt and ample choice of evening meals in resteraunt or bar. Excellent breakfast and welcoming staff. The hotel is well placed for touring the eastern side of Orkney although on such a small island nowhere is far away. Pleasant location onwaterfront.

Trip Advisor need to get the name correct. The Sands Hotel, has not been a motel for a long time. My stay was very good. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, and everything I would expect was provided. They asked that you shut the en-suite bathroom door when taking a shower or bath, in case the steam triggered the smoke... More

Just a quick one night stay arriving 8pm leaving 8am. Made to feel most welcome despise our late arrival. A minor problem with our booking was dealt with speedily. Had one of the rooms at the top of the hotel and these are best described as cosy for anybody tall like me as the roof slopes. Breakfast was made easy... More

Nice place to stay--easy to find, ample good parking (rare!!), quiet, clean and nice view. Room was large and comfortable (Swona--family room...one double/queen bed and one single...beds were excellent). Bathroom was a nice size, however, if you are over 5'9ish, you will definitely have an issue with the shower (top floor room...the ceiling slants)...shower is very good hot water and... More

I absolutely loved this Hotel, It was spotless, the rooms were beautiful and had the most amazing views The bed couldnt have been more comfortable, i am not a good sleeper, but i slept every night. The food in the Restaurant was fabulous and the staff were fantastic. As a partially sighted person with a guide dog, i have to... More

The Sands is a bit isolated as it's on Burray island, but well worth the experience. Lovely little place, with a great pub (complete with pool table, dart board, etc.) and good meals. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we had planned more nights there. It's clean, has a friendly desk crew, and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Only had a couple of days here having brought the car across on the ferry from Gills Bay to St. Margarets Hope, a crossing of 60 minutes. The once inhabited islands of Stroma and Swona are passed on the way and it is very interesting to view the clearly visible abandoned properties on both islands. Stroma saw its' last inhabitants... Booked a 2 night break to explore Orkney, 2 Adults, 2 Children. We decided to go for the Family Suite, absolutely perfect room which is more like a small self catering home within the Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding suite which comprised of an open plan lounge and dining area, adjoining kitchen, bathroom complete with a great... More

I, my wife and two friends had dinner at the Sands Hotel on 16th June 2014. We knew nothing about this hotel before we booked a table but the experience was excellent. The staff had the balance between providing all the information we needed and a relaxed friendliness just right. There are not a huge number of places to eat... More

Out standing location, room, food. Nothing bad to say at all. Food beautiful and reasonable priced, room beautifully decorated, whilst not huge room ideal for us and comfy bed. Great people , I wonder if they know how lucky they are to live in such a place,my hearts still there.
