Newbold House is a 19th-century Victorian building now run on sustainable principles. We are a well-being centre, B&B and workshop venue, surrounded by 7 acres of beautiful grounds including a large organic veg garden. There are 7 rooms – singles, twins and two rooms able to accommodate up to 5 beds for families or friends sharing. All rooms have their own hand basin, are a good size and have lovely views of the surrounding gardens and woods. There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the house. Our house, grounds and surrounding countryside are a great place to re-connect with yourself and with nature. We are based on the outskirts of Forres, in the gorgeous region of Moray Speyside and just 27 miles east of Inverness. A mere 6 miles away is Findhorn Bay, part of a coastline recently voted as one of the world’s best by National Geographic, great for boat trips and a top seal-spotting location.
Second year I have attended the winter retreat run in the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nath Hanh at Newbold - it was so appropriate as a setting. Very comfortable but none of the pretentious frills and set in the most wonderful grounds. Apple juice every morning from their own orchard and simple food very well presented. The wonderfully restful and supportive new team running the place made our stay completely welcome. I especially enjoyed walking out the back gate into the big pine forest behind and losing myself in the nature.

Spent just one night here at Newbold House, which was relaxed and quiet. Wonderful garden and great food. Very grateful to them for finding a room to put me up at quite short notice. Walking distance to centre of Forres.

Having visited two years before, I returned for a dose of R&R and wasn't disappointed. a lot quieter than it had been previously but still a true little retreat. I enjoyed taking part in the taize, organising a massage, walking around the grounds, having a delicious hearty vegetarian dinner, great variety of breakfast foods and lovely views. The beds are also very comfortable and the staff helpful. It was a little cold on the first night but that had been sorted by the second and so we were nice and toasty. The shared bathrooms were lovely and roomy and the showers powerful and hot. I just wish it wasn't so far from South England! I hope it keeps going as it's a really hidden gem in Scotland.

Four friends stayed for one night sharing two rooms. My room was enormous, double aspect windows onto beautiful gardens, high ceilings. Whole house was warm cosy & peaceful. The smell of essential oil, which I love, probably geranium, greeted us as we went upstairs. Food is delicious, all guests & staff lovely, I had a bath in the free standing old style bath, what a relaxing treat to lie back and look out the window onto the trees. We were lucky to be staying when Kaela Rowan had been booked to play for the evening. Such a treat to wander downstairs to listen to the exquisite trio. The next morning I was due to fly out, no taxi could be found so very kindly member of staff Paul drove me to airport. Would definitely recommend and come back next time I visit the Highlands.

We spent 4 wonderful days at Newbold House. We were warmly welcomed by Andrew, Blue and other staff and volunteers. Our bedroom was large, light and comfortable. Meals were delicious and healthy. The productive walled garden and woodland area were a delight. It was a pleasure to share meals with interesting people: both the staff/volunteers and other guests who were doing a course.

What a beautiful historical home and garden! The working members are welcoming, kind and genuine people. My room was comfortable and clean. There are books everywhere if additional inspiration is needed. The meals are delicious. I appreciate the commitment to sustainability here. A travelers haven.

I had the most amazing and wonderful time at Newbold House. I cannot recommend this gem of a place highly enough. If I could I would have stayed forever. The people make this place a really fabulous place. They work well and hard as a team to give guests an amazing experience. The rooms and bathrooms are impeccably clean. The towels are whiter than white yet soft. The beds are made with crisp cotton sheets. The rooms are just warm and lovely. The house is just beautiful. The people are so friendly and the organic freshly prepared food is delicious. I loved the meditation opportunity in the music room and the Taize singing in the upper floor. The garden where the food is grown is beautiful. A real labour of love. This is a very beautiful place full of very beautiful and amazingly kind and welcoming people. A place to regain lost peace and to take stock. I highly recommend this haven. A real treat. Thank you to everyone especially Deborah for making my stay so wonderful. I will be back with family and also with friends.…

I spent a night at Newbold House Jan 4th after a stay in Findhorn Ecovillage. Highly recommend this elegant spacious House with extensive beautiful grounds and organic vegetable/fruit gardens. There is a range of courses and also the opportunity to stay on bed and breakfast basis or full board by arrangement . The resident community are extremely helpful and friendly - it was no problem to get my coach ticket printed out or a lift into Forres for my bus to Inverness. The bathrooms are shared but have been recently refurbished and I enjoyed a luxurious bath in an amazing restored bathtub and also excellent power shower. For a book lover like myself the upstairs landing/sitting area is filled with interesting books and in the front lobby excellent range of leaflets eg local holistic practitioners . I also took part in early morning silent meditation which is open to anyone staying and enjoyed a delicious evening meal . This is definitely a place I want to return to for a longer stay !…

For £30 this staff xmas night out would have already been fantastic value had we only been given the beautiful dining room, and great meal-with veg from the garden. On top of that we had Murder Mystery co-ordinated by the staff, accommodating our ham acting, drunken patter and poor detective work(no one came close to solving the murder). In addition we had free use of the grand living room space before and after for drinks and sounds, dancing, general jabbering n badinage. We were there for about 5 hours in total, but please don't hold them to that, I don't know if they can keep that up... No-one knows more about meat than local butcher Sam Chawpalot,(my character), certainly with regards to ham acting, but I can't comment on the meat dish, as I am a vegetarian, and there's a limit to my method acting. The carnivores lapped it up though, but not enough to stop them mooching some of our brilliant pie. Swines. A seriously brilliant evening in a beautiful building with lovely, helpful staff. We even left our guitars n plastic cleavers n other sundry items till the next day when we could drive.... A faultless hilarious evening in a unbeatable setting to suit a range of tastes, and actually bring people together without much effort. We were all up for it, and had a blast, but I reckon it would have survived a couple o soor-faced colleagues and still been fab, so book your staff or family night out, and dare the naysayers not to smile.…
