We were staying on Seal Shore camp site adjoining the hotel so used hotel bar for drinks. We visited the restaurant for evening meal and a cooked breakfast. The bar itself is pleasant with good atmosphere with some local folk music. Very under staffed, only one bar staff member who was extremely pleasant and hard working 'Chris'. He unfortunately didn't... More

I agree with the last reviewer. I sometmes wonder if people take out their life frustrations when writing these reviews!. My partner and I had an excellent short break here, the location is beyond compare, rooms are roomy and well furnished, staff are polite, helpful and hard working and the food is very good. Its very relaxing and well worth... More

First I would like to start by saying some of the negative reviews on this site are ridiculous! Marking the hotel down for 'the state of the roads'. What has that got to do with the hotel? It is a small island with narrow winding roads, what would you prefer a motorway?? And the petty comments - do you not... More

Stayed in this hotel first week of August, chosen as it was right at the shore. Location was great with stunning views, however this hotel is in desperate need of serious TLC. The flower beds were very overgrown and weeds coming through the gravel. The outside of the hotel needs attention and there were a few things internally which would benefit... More

My daughter got married at the Kildonan Hotel on 3rd August 2014. Everything was perfect, thanks to all the staff at the Hotel, particularly Anne. The food was superb, service excellent and the organisation of the day was impeccable. We could not have asked for more - thank you very much for making my daughter's day really special.

We stayed at the hotel in July for pleasure with family, the hotel would benefit from a facelift, the stairs carpets are very worn and dirty, our fan in the bathroom was not working, toilet broken and bedside lamp did not work, we told the hotel staff but nothing was done about it. We were paying £125 per night for... More

Restaurant has changed its menu since here last year a lot cheaper and much more choice. Need to book now as it was busy night I was there and two nights later when my sister in law went with her son and partner. Well done keep it up and see you again in a few months.

Only went here for a drink, but I was glad I did. Fabulous location on the bottom of the Isle of Arran, and the beer was very good (which was a bonus). Excellent service - a Hungarian lady served me and was both good at her job and sociable too. The hotel is at the end of a 'long and... More

Beautiful situation just above the shoreline.Staff were friendly, although as is the norm these days, none of them were local. We had a family room with views over Plada. Lovely large en suite room. Again, as normal in hotels, the water temperature in the shower was variable in the extreme.Food was very enjoyable both dinner and breakfast, and reasonably priced. Very... More

We have just returned from a 3 day break in Arran. As we had got a deal our expectations weren't great. We were shown to our room which was huge and looked onto the beach etc. This must surely have one of the best locations on the island. The staff were great and the food superb. The hotel is dog... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
