We stayed for two nights 28 Feb and 1 March 2015. The stay was for my wife's birthday and the hotel kindly arranged for flowers in the room upon our arrival. We stayed in one of the suites on the first floor which has amazing views looking over the sea. When we stayed there was a bad storm however the... More

Returned back to the Kildonan hotel in feb with my husband who had never been and it just gets better. We got a great deal on the room and stayed in the honeymoon suite which was amazing. The views and the balcony was spectacular and the room just made the stay even more special. The hotel has been upgraded since... More

Booked this hotel for a 3 night stay at rhe start of February on Groupon, so we werent entirely sure what to expect. We upgraded our room to one of the suites for a small fee and it was completely worth every penny. The room was spotless, had plenty of space and the most amazing view of the coastline. It... More

This is our first night here and I must say it's very comfortable and cosy in our room. The food was very good and I loved the views across to the sea today. Had a very nice walk with the kiddies collection shells this afternoon. Would recommend for a relaxing break with family

Recently stayed here with my young daughter and her friend. Friendly staff. Good food. Big rooms. Beautiful beaches and views. A really calm and peaceful wee place but certainly came to life on the Sunday afternoon, loved the bongo's, guitars and song in he hotel bar, a really friendly fun atmosphere.

Got at a good deal on the internet for B&B. An excellent location right on the beach. So peaceful with great views and an abundance of wildlife. We upgraded to a superior room which was modern with a spacious lounge area, glazed wall to a balcony and an open sea view. The staff were very friendly and even phoned to... More

Visited here for the 2nd time and was even more impressed this time. There are more modern hotels on the island but nothing compares with the views this one offers. Even on a cold, snowy January night it was a pleasure to sit outside and listen to the waves only feet away while watching the lighthouse on nearby Pladda lighting... More

Visited this hotel recently and my wife and I stayed a couple of nights on a b & b basis. The rooms were great, clean, tidy and very well appointed. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food in the restaurant was first class. I had seen the hotel on previous visits to the island but hadn't stayed there... More

Back at Kildonan again. Only a month since last visit but when you find a good hotel at reasonable prices in the most beautiful setting, it would be madness not to visit a often s possible. Great food as always.

This hotel is located right on the shore. Our room was warm and clean and had three windows looking right over the sea so we could sit in bed and see over the water to Pladda Island and Ailsa Craig! Ask for a sea view if you go. We had a warm welcome, indeed all the staff were friendly and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
