Selected this place because of its character and previous reviews and it was well worth it. A delightful old house beautifully refurbished and looked after. The welcome was friendly and sincere and the room (The Smithy in our case) was very nice, beautifully decorated and clean. Dinner was oustanding with probably the best service I have ever had. I would... more

What a discovery! This was our first visit to Arran and we could not have been more fortunate with our choice of hotel. The relaxed caring atmosphere hit us ther moment we entered the delightful historic building. We were made to feel most welcome by the courteous, friendly staff and enjoyed some of the best cooking we have ever had.... more

How do I deflate what many people, the owners, for sure think is five star. May be the oldest building in interesting garden,(mind out for midges)with peacocks, hens(loads of eggs, but not many are cooked) etc but it is compact,a little military in its rules, and not as good as expected. Long rough single track road from the sea front. Helen was most friendly, but does... more

We must confess ourselves both baffled and hurt by this review. Some of this review is valid. It is true that the house is the oldest on the island, - compact (it was built in the 17th Century) and stands in interesting gardens. It is also true there are peacocks and hens aplenty, Helen is indeed 'most friendly' and the...

We stayed here for three nights and felt at home from the moment we arrived. It is a small country house hotel about a mile outside Brodick, the main village on the island. This was perfect for us - we eat at the hotel one night and two at pubs in the village. The food at the hotel was very... more

Just returned from 2 nights at Kilmichael. What a wonderful place! Visited with 3 friends and we all loved the place. Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with great style fitting for the house. Every detail was amazing. Food was stunning and a very good choice on the menu. The best soup (spinach and coconut) and the best porridge I have ever... more

This was our fifth visit to Arran and our fourth to the Kilmichael. I would stay nowhere else on the island. This time, we stayed in the Garden Suite and loved it so much, we will return next year. I cannot praise this hotel enough. It is just perfect in every way. The food is delicious and, although the choice... more

The Kilmichael is indeed a very special place to stay. This was our second visit. The Garden Suite had a bedroom, two bathrooms and a small sittingroom, all beautifully decorated and furnished with exquisite taste. The food was excellent, especially the dinner menus, served very carefully by a highly attentive staff. more

My husband surprised me by taking me to this hotel. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the whole look and feel of the place. It was very well decorated with the lovely themes for all the different rooms. We stayed in the Forest Room which had a 4 poster bed and a Jacuzzi which was lovely! The service was great,... more

This is an excellent country house hotel. The housekeeper told us that it reverts to a private home when the tourist season is over, and it definitely has that feel -- it's comfortable as well as elegant, and the owner/host is very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Fullarton suite, on the first floor, where the two sitting rooms... more

My husband whisked me off (via Stansted airport, Prestwick airport and the ferry terminal on the mainland!) to this idyllic hotel for my 40th birthday. I couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome. The owners had conspired with my husband to ensure that my favourite flowers and chocolates were waiting in our suite and there was also a wee dram... more
