Took my wife here for a significant birthday, we wanted somewhere away from the crowd with a touch of class, we got one of the best hotel experiences in our lives. From the lovely rooms, to the excellent cuisine, to the first class hospitality and service where no detail was overlooked, finally to the beautiful gardens in which the hotel... More

Our most recent visits to Arran have been during the winter, when the Kilmichael has not been open, but it was so nice to be able to be there at the end of October this year. We had not realised how much we had missed it. As always, we stayed in the Garden Suite, which is our favourite. It's lovely... More

Geoffrey and Anthony have restored what is reputed to be the oldest house on the Isle of Arran into a stunning country hotel on beautiful grounds. It was a monumental task and we really enjoyed learning about some of the challenges they faced. The decor is classic Chintz and a mix of European and Asian antiques. We stayed in one... More

We booked to stay on a Friday night on our way up to Duntrune and again on our return journey on the following Saturday. We had read the reviews and they appeared to be very good. Kilmichael is set in the most beautiful grounds with peacocks/peahens and chickens wandering freely in the grounds (I believe they do not have any... More

Stayed here as a birthday treat from my husband. Had heard about this place 6 years ago and was on my to go to list. I was not disappointed. Friendly welcome from the peacocks and hens in the garden and an even warmer welcome from our host with tea in the drawing room. Bedroom was very comfortable with ensuite with... More

We stayed in one of the cottages for a tranquil week's break and left feeling rested and revived. Two of the peacocks visited us and I had yet another first - to hand feed one of them. Spaciousness, luxury and comfort are obviously the focus of their aim in giving guests what they'd want. The kitchen was so well equipped... More

Thank you so much for your splendid review. It sounds as though you really enjoyed your stay and your lovely comments on the cottage - and particularly Antony's cooking - mean that we expect to see you again very soon! We must make clear to any potential guests, however, that hand feeding peacocks is an optional extra rather than an... More

Kilmichael is simply fab, not cheap but fab nevertheless. Welcoming and furnished with wonderful antiques you can tell that everything has been thought through and executed with absolute aplomb, right down to the last detail. Beds are superbly comfortable and the food is to die for. Cannot think of anything not to like about the place .. maybe the tricky... More

After an absence of eight years, we finally got our act sufficiently together to get back to Kilmichael ; we had been there quite a bit before. The pleasure of re-discovery was bitter-sweet. So good to come back .. but the question lingered, why so long ? Anyway, the peacocks are still there ( in fecund form ); the ambiance... More

Welcome back! Better late than never, as they say. Delighted that you found Kilmichael much as you'd left it and that it still has power to please. Thank you so much for sharing your satisfaction with the world (and incidentally, Geoffrey reckons the clock in the Dining Room is not wrong, merely reflecting 'Kilmichael Time' and a more leisurely pace... I had found the hotel through Expedia although my booking quickly got overturned by a very personalised email - apologising that the room booked was no longer available but a comparable room - the Smythy - was available .. so it was booked. We stayed 3 nights and it was very relaxing a great vase on which to tour the island....
