We stopped for lunch here a pleasant sandwich and baked potato. Staff were very pleasant and we enjoyed the sheltered outside seating area. We had an enjoyable drink here the previous evening but decided not to eat as a band was getting ready. We would come back, other pubs were not doing food or only serving roasts.

Following review is ONLY about the restuarant. Unusual set up when walking through the front door. Bar to your right which you can sit in, lounge dining area to the left and down the long corridor past the kitchens is a dining hall (schooldinners?) Started in the dining hall and changed to the lounge area due to excessive noise from... More

Dated, but that's fair enough for the price. Bathroom was quite dirty, bathroom door had been kicked in at some point and badly fixed.didnt have breakfast. Thin walls meant noise from other guests getting in until 1am. Not ideal on a week night. Ultimately can't complain as it was very cheap!

We stayed 11 and 12 July, we arrived around 8 in the evening with the bar in full activity, the first impressions from the young woman who gave us our room key and took payment were not great, we had booked a double room but were given a twin, when we queried this the young lady said they would rearrange... My partner and I plus our friends stayed in this hotel for a weekend while attending a wedding in Wareham. Great little hotel with great pub and beer garden. Close to shops, hairdressers and it really is a pretty little town. Best part of this hotel was the lovely lady who made sure we felt welcome from the minute we... More

We arrived on the Friday night & was greated by the lovely staff. We were shown to our room no 16 it was lovely. We went downstairs & had a bite to eat, I had the braised steak with horseradish mash with parsnip curls - it was difinatley mitchelin standard - it was gorgeous. My partner had lamb shanks he... Pub and rooms lack charm and have not seen any recent update. Beds worn and small (very narrow), bathroom circa 1980s. Room generally clean. Entertainment in the evenings can disrupt a good night sleep.

We are sorry your stay with us was not as you would of liked, the hotel is a 17th century coaching inn which does restrict us to what we can do with the property, within the last year all the carpets in the bar, dining area , lobby and rooms have all been re-carpeted. I appreciate you mentioning the beds... More

The Black Bear Hotel is a collection of rooms and amenities reached by a common front door off of the main Wareham high street. Ok... so it was a Saturday night. BUT, to be told on arrival that there is live music in the bar directly below your room... is not helpful., especially when there are no other rooms available.... More

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us at The Black Bear Hotel, this particular sat night that you are referring to there was meant to be a live band on in the evening but it was cancelled last minute so we didn't have any live entertainment on. I am sorry about the horses that were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Black Bear Hotel is a family friendly grade 2 listed period coaching inn, with 14 en-suite rooms, bar restaurant, pool table, beer garden and a function room that can be used for any occasion, business or leisure. We have a varied home cooked menu including daily specials and child options, featuring locally sourced produce. We serve local and regional real ales and selection of wines well behaved dogs are welcome. We have live music most weekends. We as a family took over the Bear on the 8th October 2012 and have been busy refurbishing the rooms and generally giving the old place a facelift, but not losing its character in the process. So the new management team, Lyn, Allan, Beccie, Podge and Maz would like you to welcome you if you choose to come and stay with us. There are several beautiful beaches and interesting sights close by. Wareham is an old market town enclosed by the famous walls and hold many historical features. The boat trips from the quayside to Poole are very popular. We are also central to Dorchester, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage and Corfe Castle, to name but a few. ... more   less
