Went to the Black Bear AGAIN £15-00 per couple includes two glasses of wine this was purchased with "Living Social Deals". Must be about my 6th visit to this Pub / Hotel and my last visit was on the 07/02/16. Sunday lunch is truly exceptional both in size and quality, four veg plus roast pots and meat to die for.... We came all the way down from Manchester and arrived at 5pm on Boxing Day, we rang beforehand to make sure we were still booked in which we was. When we arrived we realised there is nowhere to park and you have to use a pay and display car park. there was no food available and my young children were... More

Lovely friendly hotel with a great team of staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was spotless. The food and service was excellent. Great location in the centre of town. Will definitely be staying again.

I must say what a wonderful visit I had at the Black bear hotel. The land lord and land lady were as charming as the hotel. The locals are very friendly, the food was wonderful and the whole experience was brilliant. It was lovely to go into a well equipped room and we were made very welcome. I can't rate... More

Easy to find on the high st - there is a big black bear sticking out at the front!. This is a quaint old building with a bar that serves pub food, function rooms and basic accommodation in reasonable sized rooms. It's quite an expensive part of the world to stay but we got a twin room for £75 so... More

A truly awful experience with no real customer service available for Sunday lunch. This lunch had been booked for a while. A glass oif wine should have come with the meal but had to be repeatedly requested. The general ambience was very grubby \and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.,

Having been to this hotel for a meal previously we went back a second time whatva big mistake we made. We placed our order with a very polite and friendly waitress (she severed us on our last visit too) about 25 minutes after she took our order she came through and said she was going off shift and our meals... An absolutely wonderful stay. The Black Bear is everything an old coaching inn should be without the usual hideous snobbery and over - pricing. Anyone who doesn't love it doesn't deserve to stay there at twice the price.

The Hotel looks characterful and charming. The staff who greeted us including the chef were very pleasant. We booked in to a top floor room overlooking the street. As the building is listed the windows were single glazed, although the lock fell off in my hand when I tried to open the window. This is a basic accommodation with no... More

There were 6 of us looking for a meal. When we asked we were initially told that the kitchen was closed.. However, the owner said that if we could wait a short time, he would recall the chef for us. When we ordered our meals, it was for 6 different meals. When the meals came, they were very good and... More
