We booked this hotel as a group for a 60th birthday weekend. On arrival we were greeted warmly and made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. The log fire created a cosy atmosphere and the bedrooms, though small, continued that ambience. The Priory is an exceptional old building full of character and history. The gardens, which run down to... More

A charming place, steeped in history. Corridors and small public rooms. Log fire in a comfortable lounge, small bar and other lounges. Wonderful atmosphere throughout. Dining room was bijou, clean and pleasant. The meal superb. (Winter special price lunch or a la carte) Not cheap but good value. Excellent, efficient staff. Will certainly visit again.

Family lunch for 6. On arrival downstairs was full so we were given the upstairs room. Almost like entertaining at home. Comfortable, well appointed. Staff were attentive but not pushy. All went seamlessly. Service at lunch was responsive, no long delays. Food was thoughtfully presented, the chef had a good eye to detail. Amounts were moderately generous. Sweets offered were... I have eaten at the priory with the same group of friends on 3 occasions. We all found that it was, for the most part, a lovely experience. We ate in the evening and arrived at the back gates which were remotely controlled and with a swirling mist added to the experience of arriving somewhere special. We entered the Hotel... More

Have recently had a family lunch at the Priory to celebrate our Diamond wedding. From start to finish everything was smoothly managed, all the staff efficient and friendly, and the food superb. From us oldies to the youngest teenage grandchild, we were all taken good care of and our tastes considered. The young chef did a fantastic job of getting... More

This is a lovely hotel, with excellent standards of service. The food is very good indeed. We stayed for 6 days, and the menu was good for for each evening. We are not fond of creamy puddings, but having said this on the first evening the chef cooked something special for us for every subsequent dinner. Our only comment is... More

I have had dinner here many times, and the meal has always been very good. While it is expensive, the Dover sole is well worth the extra supplement as it is always both perfectly cooked and perfectly fresh. The cellar dining room reflects the fact that this was once a priory, and there are a couple of stone steps down... More

We were treated to lunch on Monday, it was lovely to be sat in a lounge for pre meal drinks and then taken through to the restaurant itself once our starters were ready. The menu itself was very seasonal a good choice of autumn dishes and expecially good fishcakes with mussels cream sauce . Once we had finished we were... More

My boyfriend and I have wanted to take afternoon tea at The Priory for ages and we expected great things as it looks delightful from the river side. Alas, we were disappointed with the overall afternoon tea experience. We arrived at the hotel at 3pm on a Sunday and were told by a rather frosty man on reception to come... More

We stayed for two nights on the way to Exeter and back to London. My mother had a very badly bruised leg (octogenarian too). Marked as a Solo trip as we had separate rooms and the hotel doesn't take children - so not Family... Could be romantic - but VERY traditional. The hotel was helpful, understanding, extremely friendly and kind,... More
