we dont understand the negative comments - yes it is a pub, run by youngsters and a bit disorganised but they are warm, the service is good enough, the food is lovely (especially breakfast) and the rooms are bright and tidy. Best of all - location, location, location!

We went for an evening meal at this pub on a Thursday night in the 3rd week in August having seen it advertised in Swanage. The well situated nice-looking pub with a beer garden overlooking south beach clearly believes that the punters will come anyway so no need to bother when it comes to food, drink and service. After being... More

A hugely busy lunch time destination (especially at weekends) but once the crowds have left its a lovely peaceful place to stay. Bedrooms are comfortable, sea views from bedrooms at the front, hearty full English breakfast to set you up for the day. Limited WIFI.

Really friendly, nice atmosphere, lovely beer brewed onsite! Good value as well. You can buy bottles of the bitters and ales to take away which make a lovely present. A big bonus for us was that dogs were allowed, although this was during a not very busy spell.

Have visited the pub before and never had an issue until yesterday. On arrival I ordered 1 and 1/2 pints of cider for my wife and I and 3 lemonades for our boys. We then sat in the garden opposite overlooking the bay and the boys were playing with a ball not 10 yards away. My wife took the youngest... More

I have visited The Bankes Arms several times of the years and each time the experience has deteriorated. Arrived on Sunday to find there was a beer festival taking place. We found a table in the outside eating area, not an easy task. A couple of our party thought they would go for some food and the rest of us... More

Great venue if the weather is fine. The food is ordered at the bar and brought to your outside table. Can be very busy. A good choice of local beers, some produced on the premises. The food is basic pub grub, but nevertheless it is good.

I visited this pub with some friends for a light lunch, the food was terrible and definitely not worth the price we paid (we all felt robbed). I think the owners of this place need to give the entire pub a good clean and work on improving the quality of the food. We will not be going back.

We booked 4 rooms for 2 nights, to attend a family wedding. The rooms were dirty, with cobwebs and spiders. One shower had no water and the other 3 only trickled water, despite massive shower heads. The beds were the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced and our toilet had brown stains all over the bottom of the pan and round... More

Sat at a table near to a closed window lots of dead flies on the sill, the table had not been cleaned after the last customers. My wife and I had scampi and chips nothing special about that, our son had ham egg and chips and his wife had sausage and chips that you could have got from any greasy... More
