Very tired, shabby room, cobwebs & not very clean, limited menu which was not good. Ate there the first night but not again. Skeleton staff who although tried did not have much idea. Breakfast mediocre & not told there was any choice on first day. Saving grace is the position..wonderful view of the sea which we knew & the area... More

The food used to be great, today I had salmon which was overlooked, prawns which looked like they'd come from a well known freezer store with a dollop of Marie rose sauce. The ham my father had was cheap, slimy and from a packet. People will visit here because of the great beer, location and stunning views. Sadly the owners... More

My favourite pub the Bankes Arms I have been going to since my childhood. I love it! The whole traditional look and the roaring fire. The food was a bit disappointing, I remember a ploughmans being much more exciting but not this time. Still such a lovely place and the staff so friendly. Thanks for making my mothers day a... More

This could be wonderful - but isn't. Stayed 2 nights, nearly went home before staying 2nd night, but weren't sure what time the ferry stopped running. Bathroom was unusable - this is February and bathroom has no heating - not even a heated towel rail. Was supposed to have a shower, but this was just a showerhead cradled on the... More

.....but very poor food. Ham, egg & chips - ham was thin, slimey packet ham served with salad that had seen better days, only 1 egg & peas that were as hard as rocks and at £9.50 did not represent good value for money. Scampi was tasty, but again served with the very poor salad & peas, average value for... More

Great views, location and beer......but..........the food is extremely average with no finesse.......the pub needs a good clean......... The ladies toilets are shameful. One loo has been out of order for weeks, the hand dryer out of order for weeks too, the wash basin and tap falling apart. All in all very shabby. The truth is....they have no competition unless you... More

Very little choice for vegetarians - cheese or cheese. Decided to have ham, egg and chips without the ham obviously. Found out after that I'd been charged the full amount. Scandalous, food already seems expensive (paying for location) without blatant overcharging.

Had lunch after a walk to Old Harry. Food was great, especially the lamb and game casserole. Food came quickly and service was good. Not sure why this pub hasn't got great reviews, I would recommend to anyone!

I generally stop in here if we've canoeing down on Studland Bay for a warming cup of tea of pint (depending upon how many times I've fallen in...) The staff are always friendly and the pub itself is great. The food has always been a bit hit and miss, but recently it's all been good. Worth popping in.

An idyllic building: stone flagged, roaring fireplaces with a fantastic garden looking down the grass to the sea and a picture perfect view. The setting is brilliant, and there are great walks. If you wanted "gorgeous English seaside pub" this scores 5/5. The beer selection is great too, with some delicious home brewed beers. But majorly let down by the... More
