Had Scampi & chips, sent it back at the Scampi tasted of Chlorine. Barman said it was fine... Tasted of Chlorine. My mate ordered ham egg and chips, awful processed ham, wafer thin! I wouldn't feed the food to my dog!! If you come to eat be prepared to be disappointed, surviving off location!!

I've been to the Bankes Arms regularly for years, and have always found it to be a welcoming place, dog friendly and with a good selection of beer (brewed on the premises) and cider. We stopped by after a winter walk along shell bay and decided to eat, which was a mistake. Of the 6 meals ordered, one was burnt,... More

My husband and I and two very soggy Golden Retrievers stopped at the Bankes Arms for a light snack lunch after a lovely walk along Studland Beach, and were delighted with the Ham and Mustard baguette and Cheddar Baguette. Before we could blink, or settle the dogs, it seemed food was served. The baguettes were the best we have had:... More

We stopped at the Bankes Arms for lunch mid way around a Purbeck bike ride. We sat int he sun in the large beer garden and ordered game casserole and scampi and chips. We had barely started our drinks when the food arrived, huge portions, super hot and tasty. Unfortunately our 8 month old ate half of my game casserole... More

This is a lovely place to stop for lunch as it is very atmospheric and the food is generally great and service very quick. However I cannot give it the highest ranking as, despite the waiting staff being really nice and friendly the bar staff are just plain miserable...I and have been on all four occasions I have been there)... Visited the Bankes Arms for Sunday lunch with the family. Although the bar was busy we were served very quickly, the barman recommended the beer which they brew on the premises, it was fantastic. The lunch was amazing and thoroughly enjoyed by all. After lunch we walked to Old Harry Rocks and returned to the Bankes for coffees before heading... More

The title best describes the bankes arms, after walking up to old harrys rock we attempted to get a meal here, seating for meals is if you see an empty table grab it before anyone else, then while your eating you have people stood by you waiting for you to finish so they can get your seat.Maybe different at not... Good food and excellent real ale from the micro brewery next door. Always packed at lunches, so come early. An open fire place adds to the ambience. A small minus that you couldn't get the pork sausages with mash, only with chips. They had mash with the lamb sausages. After the meal it's just a short stroll down to the... More

I read the reviews and was a bit concerned - needn't have worried though. All rooms the family booked [5 doubles] were spotless, warm with plenty of hot water once it came through The staff couldn't have been bettered - helpful and unobtrusive but willing to join in the fun with us Our meals were served promptly and hot -... The Bankes Arms was visited and later booked for a family get-togetjher despite the many bad reviews. Unfriendly staff? No, they were lovely. Cold food? No, hot, both dinner and breakfast and promptly served. Granted, they weren't busy in mid December. Granted, strange that they don't do omelettes for breakfast despite doing scrambled, poached and fried. The rooms were clean... More
