I visited this pub many years ago so was looking forward to a return trip with my daughter. It was, however, all rather disappointing. I get the feeling that they rely rather too much on the good fortune of their location and have forgotten that good service is important too, especially if they want returning customers. Firstly I was refused... More

Whilst on a short break at the Haven Hotel in Sandbanks, we dropped in here on the recommendation for friends from Bournemouth. It is a comfortable, relaxed and friendly pub. The service was friendly and efficient, quality of draught beers was very good. Everyone was happy withe their meals, the sea bream was very good, though the thai curry was... More

As we had a large party of 18 people, we booked in person two months before we were due to dine. When we turned up it appeared that they had forgotten about our booking completely and we were ushered out of the pub and seated in the breakfast room next door (complete with packets of corn flakes) and told we... Let's start with a positive - If you're a hiker, dog walker or day tripper the Bankes Arms is a great place to stop off. Wonderful views across the bay, reasonable pub grub and a fine selection of ales. Ok, that was the positive, but I didn't mention the B&B. That is where things fall apart quite dramatically. This place... More

We went a couple of times last week and both occasions were good experiences. The first visit allowed us to sit out in their garden, which overlooks the sea. Great spot and not too busy. The beers were not your standard brands so it added to the sense of discovery to try a couple. Our second visit entailed food, with... More

Very tired, shabby room, cobwebs & not very clean, limited menu which was not good. Ate there the first night but not again. Skeleton staff who although tried did not have much idea. Breakfast mediocre & not told there was any choice on first day. Saving grace is the position..wonderful view of the sea which we knew & the area... More

The food used to be great, today I had salmon which was overlooked, prawns which looked like they'd come from a well known freezer store with a dollop of Marie rose sauce. The ham my father had was cheap, slimy and from a packet. People will visit here because of the great beer, location and stunning views. Sadly the owners... More

My favourite pub the Bankes Arms I have been going to since my childhood. I love it! The whole traditional look and the roaring fire. The food was a bit disappointing, I remember a ploughmans being much more exciting but not this time. Still such a lovely place and the staff so friendly. Thanks for making my mothers day a... More

This could be wonderful - but isn't. Stayed 2 nights, nearly went home before staying 2nd night, but weren't sure what time the ferry stopped running. Bathroom was unusable - this is February and bathroom has no heating - not even a heated towel rail. Was supposed to have a shower, but this was just a showerhead cradled on the... More

.....but very poor food. Ham, egg & chips - ham was thin, slimey packet ham served with salad that had seen better days, only 1 egg & peas that were as hard as rocks and at £9.50 did not represent good value for money. Scampi was tasty, but again served with the very poor salad & peas, average value for... More
