I generally stop in here if we've canoeing down on Studland Bay for a warming cup of tea of pint (depending upon how many times I've fallen in...) The staff are always friendly and the pub itself is great. The food has always been a bit hit and miss, but recently it's all been good. Worth popping in.

An idyllic building: stone flagged, roaring fireplaces with a fantastic garden looking down the grass to the sea and a picture perfect view. The setting is brilliant, and there are great walks. If you wanted "gorgeous English seaside pub" this scores 5/5. The beer selection is great too, with some delicious home brewed beers. But majorly let down by the... More

Stopped here for a meal. It was very poor. Didn't know you could ruin a spaghetti Bol! It wasn't the cheapest meal and there was four of us and we all had a poor meal. The view is lovely however wouldn't really recommend.

This lovely old pub is in a truly lovely spot of Dorset with views out across the sea. The pub garden is huge and I've stopped off for a drink many times while walking around Studland and Old Harry Rocks. I had lunch there recently for the first time and while the food was ok (fish and chips) it was... More

A busy pub with stunning views. Unfortunately we stopped for lunch on a very busy Sunday, 1 ploughman's and a goats cheese salad, this took 1 hour to arrive after I twice went to the bar to ask exactly how long does it take to make a salad????? People coming in after us, receiving food before us.....cooked food. ..!. Eventually... More

We visited the Bankes Arms after a longish walk and felt in need of some refreshment which the pub was able to provide. It was a hot day so we sat outside across the road from the pub with great views of the coast. The pub seemed to be fairly busy but our baguettes arrived quickly. They were fresh and... More

This could be a gem but... Pros - pretty location, good bar and adequate food. Cons - service is slow and inefficient, rooms require maintenance, some rooms have a shared bathroom (the bath is fitted with a shower but no shower curtain, so useless, and the WC is in the same room as the bath - so expect a wait!)... My family has lived in the area for decades and so we have visited several times each year going to this pub perhaps once or twice a year. Great location but in need of investment to update. Always v busy and menu often reduced due to certain things running out. Good selection of beers, plenty of staff and service reasonable.... More

If other reviews are anything to go by, I think tonights lottery draw may also prove a winner. We ate at about 5pm, and both chose sea bass with chips and salad. The pub was quiet to how we remember it, judging by the reviews perhaps hardly surprising. Nevertheless the bar staff were attentive and efficient. Our food was served... More
