We have just got back from a 2 night stay at The Bankes Arms and I have to say it was lovely. We were with my 3 year old and our 2 dogs. I had read the previous bad reviews and was a little concerned but as it was Easter holidays and everywhere full we decided to risk it and... More

Although I disagree you should pay to park to visit this pub(there should be parking exception if you have purchased food). I was very surprise at the standard of the food. We must had visited on a good day as our food was very well presented. Served in good time. In fact we had shared a dish of salmon and... More

Thank goodness The Pig On The Beach is opening soon to offer an alternative to this dreadful place. The Bankes Arms have ripped off their captive audience in this lovely location for too long. Order the grey processed beef served with a scary (mustard?) gloop in a frozen baguette at your own peril!

Popped in for a drink with my wife, having been for a walk to Old Harry Rocks. Pub was very busy being a Saturday afternoon. I had a couple of their draught Real Ales, which were very nice. My wife had their draught cider which she liked. Plenty of atmosphere with the log fire burning! Sat out in the garden... More

On the upside wonderful views from beer garden - but from there on it's all downhill. Obviously the pub had been busy due to the warm weather but I don't think that excuses the sheer amount of half eaten food, dirty plates, rubbish and empty glasses that littered both the pub and garden. It was so bad we even saw... More

Popped in for Sunday evening meal, about 6pm. Okay so they had a busy day and had run out of some dishes but we found something that we liked and ordered. The staff were okay, but tables still laden with dirty plates and glasses, as was the outside area....very dangerous having glasses on the grass where children play. The food... More

We visited the pub last night mainly to sample the real ales from the purbeck brewery. We also had a meal. Firstly, the beers were really good. We sampled 5 different ones and enjoyed them all. The food was lovely. It was delivered quickly, the portion sizes good and tasted fantastic. The staff were very friendly. We sat in front... More

When we arrived we knew it would be busy but didn't expect it to be to that extreme. Menu is very basic with not much to choose from. The majority of us ordered baguettes and was told there would be 45 min wait. An HOUR after waiting we were seen by a member of the kitchen staff who said they... More

This could be a fantastic pub if it tried a bit harder. It's got a better atmosphere recently, but the lighting's bright and dreadful (particularly the 1960s strip light behind the bar) and could easily be modernised with discreet low-level spotlights. Some of the decor is inappropriate - a lot of racing memorabilia from a previous landlord and some old... More

Unsure what to expect, and had a lovely time here in September 2013.... the food was good, and such generous portions that we ended up having childrens meals one evening... As the weather was kind, we made full use of the beer garden overlooking the sea, and right next door to the Dorset Coastal path - some of the other... More
