My wife and I came here for my birthday meal and loved every minute of it. We hadn't booked and were surprised to find the restaurant almost fully booked on a Monday evening, but we were welcomed and shown to a table where we enjoyed the lamb koftas as a starter and the duck and tarte tatin as mains. Truly... More

Been meaning to stop here for some time, and we were so glad we did. Had a great lunch, one haddock with spring onion mash, one simple panini. All freshly prepared and very nice. Reasonable portions for the price. Good menu and wine selection. We will book for dinner soon! Care needed when crossing the very busy A30 from the car... More

We met our good friends here as a half way point between Woking and Plymouth. We are so, so glad we did. We had a great 7 mile walk in the sunshine at Cerne Abbas (about 30 mins by car), and our tired legs were glad to stroll over the threshold into this lovely pub (a free house). It has... More

Popped in to The Ship Inn for dinner. Despite only 15 minutes before the kitchen closed they were friendly and welcoming. Announced they were quite busy and apologised in advance if the food was going to be a bit slow. But food arrived quickly and was really well cooked. The staff were charming. There was free WIFi. Best pub food... More

We just had a couple of nights at the Ship Inn in May 2014 and had a great, relaxing stay. With our one year old boy sleeping upstairs we really enjoyed the food in the evenings and were able to keep an ear open via the monitor to our room directly upstairs. Gavin was an excellent host and did everything... More

Can you imagine you having 3 rooms let in your quiet country pub on a Friday night, therefore expecting to serve 6 people for breakfast Saturday morning. How would you react if, at 08:30 8 more people turned up asking for breakfast? That's exactly what we did..my brother-in-law was staying there after our sons wedding, so we thought we'd pop... More

One of the nicest, friendliest welcomes I have ever recieved. Nothing was too much trouble, room spacious comfortable and clean, bed fab and as before stated, very good quality and linen. Menu was varied and with so many great dishes it was difficult to choose, breakfast and evening meal all good quality and very well cooked. I would definatly recommend... More

As part of a foursome that has taken to eating in random Dorset Pubs and Restaurants once a month we made a trip about an hours from home and found the Ship at West Stour. We phoned ahead to check that it was open and I was immediately impressed with the warm telephone manner and reassurance that we could just... More
