we stayed at the castleman for a night with our son and his fiancé, old and charming and very good staff, they changed my room straight away , as the first one we were shown was a bit grim , faded and dated, the one we stayed in was much nicer with a 4 poster bed over looking the lawn... More

A beautiful interior boasting oodles of Olde English charm. The reception rooms are crammed with comfortable sofas, books and old fashioned furniture. The restaurant is bright and airy and the food delicious. Being a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel it is a rather laid back, relaxed and friendly experience and you may sometimes need to seek a person... More

This hidden gem is beautiful, with grand staircase and old world charm in a magnificent manor house. I took my daughter here for a 40th birthday treat and we sat in the garden with a glass of wine (very reasonable prices) watching pheasants in the pastures beyond. We tasted amazing pears that fell off their stalks and into our hands... More

We went to the Castleman for the first time for a meal, following several recommendations. The food and service was excellent, and very competitively priced, catering, it seems, for mature couples, as my wife and I were the youngest ones in the restaurant (in our 50s). The siting rooms are grand and comfortable and although the restaurant was full, it... More

This rather grand old country house hotel tucked away in one of Dorsets pretty and quirky villages enjoys a reputation for fine dining and is justly deserved. We enjoyed a celebratory dinner in a pretty and airy dining room, after having drinks served in the blue room. The food is freshly prepared from locally sourced ingredients, a very wide choice... Unfortunately I arrived to late to enjoy the dinner that everyone raves about, but my room was comfortable and quiet, and there was real milk to enjoy with the tea-and-coffee facilities in the room. The bathroom was large and spotlessly clean. The list of breakfast options was endless; I was just about to make my selection, when I heard the... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Yes, it's quirky - slightly eccentric, slightly faded but so comfortable and friendly. We had room 3, a massive room with a 4 poster, looking over the lawn at the back, and extremely comfortable. The furniture was a mixture of odd old pieces, but with good chairs and all the hanging... Thank God this place has been kept from private equity investors and brewery chains. Yes it's a little run down, no the wi-fi isn't kicking out 24Megabits a second but you can't buy this charm and home-from-home service. Our room was comfy and large with a lovely fresh-air view across the fields at the back of the house - nothing... More

Just returned from a night at the Castleman - we did enjoy it. Food good and incredibly good value - excellent starters at dinner for only £5!! Had a delicious swordfish salad and mixed seafood gratin starter and my husband's steak was very good too. Staff very friendly, amenable and helpful. Everyone is very fond of this place, it is... We stayed here on the night of the 3rd August for just one night (it was the eve of my birthday and a surprise from my husband). It's a very quirky place with old-fashioned furniture and creaky floorboards - really atmospheric. The public areas i.e. the library and sitting rooms are full of comfy sofas and armchairs; great for reading... More
