The Castleman is a lovely place run by lovely people. Some may find it old-fashioned but that is all part of its charm. The bathrooms in some of the bedrooms are worth a visit in their own right. A better reason for staying is the glorious food cooked by Barbara Garnsworthy and Richard Morris. Barbara's brother Brendan does a superlative... More

Once again a wonderful culinary experience, with innovative dishes and lovely local staff, this is an oasis in Dorset;s otherwise fine dining desert. The late great host Teddy is sadly missed, but he would be proud of the way Barbera has carried on his heritage

A country house experience and treated like a Lord. Excellent welcome on arrival and shown a huge four poster bedroom. Delicious dinner, serving fresh local produce, very comfy bed and first class freshly cooked breakfast to order. Very good service all the way through ans very deservingly a five star experience.

We went to The Castleman for my birthday dinner and stayed overnight so we didn't have to drive home afterwards. Our room (No 3) was large and comfortable in the English country house style, slightly shabby chic, with lovely views over the grounds and surrounding countryside. The bed was a four poster and very comfortable although, being short, I could... More

Beautiful situation and the biggest room we have ever stayed in. Antique ensuite which was interesting but provided lovely hot water in record time. The dinner menu is amazing with a fantastic choice range for every course and absolutely delicious. Relaxed and happy atmosphere with friendly staff.

Old country house in feel and reality, needs some TLC, but it is a very old building. A wonderful antidote to modern trendy hotels with no soul. The room was large and comfortable, but the floor sloping in a number of directions took some getting used to. The food and wine list was good and outstanding value combined with a... More

There is very little I can add to what has been already said in the reviews already posted. The Castleman is without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Dorset. The location, the ambience, menu, and service is something few establishments achieve in this day and age.

We once came to a a lovely intimate wedding celebration meal here, and knew we had to come back. Devoid of Gastro-pub touches, corporate branding nowhere to be seen; this place is not retro-chic, and nor is it retro: that really is a humongous Jacobean fire-place in the enormous lounge. The food is excellent, and utterly immune to foodie fads... More

Blows the corporate gastro pub hotels out of the water with it's 'staying at aunties old house in the country' atmosphere. The room was huge, the pipes rattled and hummed, the water gushed like a.geyser. A really nostalgic blast from the past with lovely decorous staff sometimes dressed in three day event gear with crop and riding helmet and permanent... More
