The Marquis of Lorne is hidden away in the Dorset countryside, 15 minutes drive from the centre of Bridport. We were looking for a location for a peaceful break, which would be close to the Jurassic coast, and Bridport for the Festival of Culture. We read previous reviews and thought the Marquis would fit the bill, and how right we... More

We arrived at the pub a little weary havibg had a challenging diversion down single track roads due to a landslide en-route. We later realised that there is are a few milesd of such roads to negotiate whichever direction you go in from this pub....we had a couple of close scrapes with larger vehicles that didn't want to stop! We... More

Narrow lanes lead up to this remote B&B with average rooms above the pub. Nice management couple and friendly personal service. Very good food at dinner time but very average breakfast experience on a two night stay. Room had no sound proofing to the pub below so would be a struggle on crowded pub nights (room 2). Electric shower delivered... More

We found this delightful country inn by searching Tripadvisor. We were looking for somewhere peaceful to stay in West Dorset to spend our wedding anniversary and wow did we find it! Our Sat Nav guided us safely through the narrow lanes and we were given a warm welcome by Tracey and the staff. Our room was small but very comfortable,... More

Well, all we can say is what a gem the Marquis of Lorne is ! I cant think of another place we've stayed where we were made to feel more welcome, Trace & Steve are absolutely wonderful hosts and made our stay so special. The warm family atmosphere was second to none, it's the attention to detail that impressed us... More

Stayed at The Marquis of Lorne having stayed there some 25 years ago and were very impressed. The quality now on offer matches that easily and I have to say that we found the place just as we hoped. The current owners certainly go that extra mile to make you feel comfortable and the food is absolutely brilliant. The pub... More

Having regarded this as a safe but slightly dull bet for many years, we called in for lunch one recent sunny spring say; and how glad we did. The setting and beer were, as ever, heavenly. But the food was outstanding. Everything was fresh and well thought out, excellently presented, and most of all, really really tasty. This has now... More

Stayed one night on business.Really nice welcome from "Trace" when I checked in at the bar. Quick pint and upstairs to change. My room (7) was clean, warm and cosy. Not pretentious or corporate but really comfortable. Had a great meal (chicken liver and pistachio pate with lobser thermidor to follow.....all for less than £20) Spent a bit more on... More

We had visited this pub before and had a distinctly unexceptional experience. It's now changed hands and what a difference. We were with a large group of friends staying for the Bank Holiday weekend. Some of our party were not staying for the entire weekend but, despite the difficulties we presented, the owners could not have been more helpful, even... More
