A few miles from Bridport, in the hamlet of Nettlecombe. Nestled within the beautiful countryside of West Dorset, it epitomises peace itself. You would need a car to get to the sea, or anywhere really. However, that makes this part of the charm of The Marquis. Our room was clean and comfy, not huge, but totally adequate, and the view... Very comfortable well appointed accommodation, good range of well maintained real ales, a great food menu with many locally sourced ingredients, best meal I've had this year, good sized car park, WiFi speed in pub good, staff friendly upbeat and professional (even at breakfast), the lawn of the beer garden/kids play area would put many a bowling green to shame.... Our third trip here was every bit as good as the other two. it is hard to praise this place too highly - the location is stunning, the rooms clean, tidy and well maintained, the food and drink excellent and the staff could not be more pleasant and accommodating. Try the short round trip walk from the pub, through Nettlecombe... More

A group of us stayed here while on a touring holiday of the south coast, what a great place! The staff were all very friendly. The rooms were well presented and extremely clean. The food was excellent and the beer was great. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Our fourth visit to this fabulous traditional country pub hidden away on a quiet country lane. Friendly staff and atmosphere with superb food and beer. Rooms are very clean, comfortable with super beds and home made chocolates and cookies. The mini fridge for the milk at the top of the stairs such a good idea. The ideal getaway to unwind and... More

Tucked away up some narrow country lanes we were amazed by the welcome and menu of the Marquis. This is certainly at the top end of pub food. 3 courses of fresh local food cooked to perfection and washed down with excellent local draft beer. Then, next morning, a full English breakfast fit for a king (or Marquis).

Arrived almost at the end of dinner service but the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. A surprisingly long and varied menu and not just the usual pub options. Delicious veggie tart and a yummy crumble for desert. Great little find.

We had planned to eat at the Three Horseshoes at Powerstock but it was fully booked, being Saturday evening. They recommended the Marquis of Lorne (also Palmers) and as it was only 5 minutes' away we drove over. Again, we were told they were fully booked but that we could eat outside. It was 6.30 so was warm enough and... More

We were on holiday in Bridport , last year and invited out for lunch at this lovely place on Boxing Day. When we arrived "The pram race"had just finished and there were lots of people still milling around, drinking amd enjoying the day. However, this did not detract from the service and quality of food, which was excellent. A nice... More
