The Ilchester Arms is currently undergoing a plan of refurbishment, which I hope will bring this ideally situated pub/bar/restaurant back to its former glory. on a walk to the swannery would of been an ideal spot for lunch, especially as had time as the swannery was closed.

How embarrassing for the village (and Lord Ilchester) to have such poor accommodation in such a beautiful place! We had to ask for another bedroom because the mattress was so terrible. The second room was hardly better. The room hadn't been updated since the 1980s I think. We too had been walking the Jurassic Way and needed some comfort. The... More

Abbotsbury is a beautiful village on the Jurassic Coast. We stayed at the Ilchester Arms on the second night of our coastal walk. Friendly staff, but everything a bit faded. Showers did not work in either room, which after a day's walking is just not acceptable. Pub type food ok. Flag above entrance shredded into bits, which really sums up... More

We had booked a relaxing two-night stay in the stunning village of Abbotsbury to enjoy some sea fishing, historical monuments and coastal walks. On arriving at the Ilchester Arms, we were very warmly welcomed by several members of staff and immediately shown to our room, “bluebell” which was situated in a converted period stable block next to the main 18th... Stayed at the end of a long walk. Had to hunt down someone at bar to check us in. The welcome was chilly. Our room was small and depressing, with a sink in the room and tiny bathroom with teeny shower. A large room with bath was available but the receptionist said she couldn't change it without her absent boos'... More

We stayed in the Charlotte, we weren't offered any of the cheaper rooms although at breakfast there didn't appear to be any other guests apart from another couple!! A good way to make extra money from their customers I think. The room had a four poster bed with an ill-fitting mattress, it was too small for the base, and you... More

I stayed in this lovely, oldie world hotel for 2 nights during a walking trip in Dorset. It is a lovely family run business, the staff are always smiling, the breakfast was really good. The rooms where dated but clean, I would stay again.

After a long days walk on the south coast path, we decided to use this Pub as it was directly opposite our ecellent B&B (Peaches). The only bad mistake we made that day. We popped our head in the door to ask if we had to book for the evening meal just before we went to our B&B and were... More

The hotel is a trip back in time; the lobby is the bar and the barmaid hands you your key. Our room was really charming, with a fireplace, four-poster bed and comfortable seating area to boot. The bathroom actually had double sinks - a unique experience on this trip! Unfortunately, it was a very warm day, and the windows barely... More

Called in to the pub for dinner because it was mentioned in the "Slow Dorset" guide book.Traditional welcoming pub, with a short suitable kids' menu and a varied unpretentious one for the grown ups. I ordered seafood pie from the specials board which was fresh, tasty and really excellent, and the kids' food was of a far better quality than... More
