I booked 2 rooms at the Rising Sun on 8th June to stay on 8th Aug as we were going to a friends wedding at Weirmarsh Farm, I was amazed when I had an email on 23rd July cancelling my reservations. I rang the hotel and spoke to some called Louisa, who asked me who I booked with as the... More

We stayed here with our 10 month old for 4 nights. The land lady and land lord couldn't be more helpful and accomodating. They have 9 rooms in total and they were in a separate building to the main pub so we had no pub noise. The rooms are quaint and a bit dated but completely in line with the... More

I cannot complement this place enough, the food was outstanding (i'm a huge foodie and quiet difficult to please) the crispy duck salad is a must, so good I had to have more the next day :) Their Sunday roast is super tasty and by far the best I have had in a long time, you can taste the quality and... Arrived at the pub mid afternoon on Friday 01/05/2015 with our group of 8 people after checking to see if they did food all day,We were told by the barman that as it was slow the kitchen had shut to prepare for the evening menu. We were clearly disappointed as we'd been on the road for hours just as we... More

Really nice people in management and bar staff. Breakky was great and so was dinner! So top marks for that. Bed is well worn and needs replacing. Window was jammed so unsafe if a fire had started. The 2 am finish to drinking in the bar is a bit late as voices and music carry through the floors.

I booked this hotel because I needed an affordable overnight stay near Barnstaple. I was pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome and the good, clean room. I stayed in the 'Otter' double room, and though it was quite small (and charmingly crooked) it was clean and well-equipped. The noise from the road was minimal due to secondary glazing. The breakfast... More

We had a lovely evening. The Food was nicely priced and well cooked. Our 6 year old son had loads of fun and everyone was so friendly. We will definitely return. Thankyou for a really family friendly evening.

We stayed at the Rising Sun for 2 days and it was my idea of a perfect English Pub experience . Room was comfortable, breakfast - huge English- was fabulous. We celebrated my brother's birthday there and all of us enjoyed our meals. Staff were great about producing a little cake celebration with candles, all asked for at the last... More

We tried to order food about 5 minutes before they stopped doing food - the bar lady phoned the kitchen to see if they could rustle up two meals and was told "no". I can see how it can be annoying for the chef to be placed an order 5 minutes before the end of the shift, but surely that's... More

Having read some of the scathing reviews of The Rising Sun Inn with some trepidation we headed there for an evening meal for my wifes birthday. What a pleasent suprise it was. The inn was very quiet, which for a Friday night was quite suprising. The staff were very pleasent and helpfull. The food itself was lovely. We had crab... More
