I visited the Rising Sun with friends on Thursday night, the place was very busy with a huge group in the dining room. Food was great, the venison special was amazing and the service was as expected from a pub. Fun friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. I would question the reviews below as after chatting to the... More

Since the previous management left this pub in february this year the rising sun has lost its way. This pub was fast becoming the best in north devon by far but now has slipped back. I,m sure given time this will improve. Previous landlord was always around guiding and welcoming guests yet now there is no obvious management which is... More

We were advised that there were new owners and the website looked good..............took our two children on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was poor and we were advised there was now a temporary landlord/lady. The food was rubbish - my husband's prawn starter included warm, soggy lettuce, the steak was tough and I sent back my fish and chips the... More

taking my mum in law and family out for a mothering sun lunch was a terrible experience!! we were ushered into another room by a young girl (who did not seem very with it at all ) then we had to help her to put two tables together pulling and tugging we then waited half an hour before she took... Called in this evening at nearly 9pm after dropping passengers in nearby village, and just in time for food. Two steaks twenty quid was excellent! Didn't need steak knives, tender as anything. Will be returning! Staff/owners lovely friendly people. Great pub. Locals say Sunday lunch is excellent so that will be our next visit I expect!

We have taken 6 months to try out the pub under new owners as the last time we went under previous people it was so awful, but what a transformation clean, warm, fantastic food, friendly and welcoming staff what more could you want from your local. Congratulations to Steve and his team and we look forward to coming back soon.

Stayed for one night in October with my wife, daughter and dog. Very spacious room in building directly behind the pub. The pub itself is very nice, good food and ale, but what really made the stay was the welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast topped off an enjoyable visit. There is a lovely local walk by the river Steve told me... More

After a series of 'so-so ' pub food experiences, I wasn't expecting too much. However..!! Wow. Best gourmet burger I've ever had, gorgeous starter, and the perfect sponge-based home made cheesecake, none of the pre-packed over sugared biscuit stuff. Really really good, and friendly service too. The only oddity? A Christmas song, surrounded by Bob Marley. See you again soon...

Lovely little pub across the road from the pub, no longer part of the Tarka Rail Trail but good staff and good beer. We were wlecomed by a very polite landlady and also a lovely barmaid. Apparently they normally do their own pork scratchings but not available when we visited, hopefully we will be back to try these! We didn't... More
