Having read some of the scathing reviews of The Rising Sun Inn with some trepidation we headed there for an evening meal for my wifes birthday. What a pleasent suprise it was. The inn was very quiet, which for a Friday night was quite suprising. The staff were very pleasent and helpfull. The food itself was lovely. We had crab... More

We were made very welcome on our arrival. Initially we were given a very bleak room (otter) with only enough room to just get around the bed, only one bedside table and no shower and directly above the outside terrace which was very crowded and very noisy. We asked if there was a quieter room in the annex just to... More

Staying in Umberleigh with a dog, it is brilliant to find a dog friendly eating place in the village. Food very good, and not over expensive. We were made very welcome, and a homely atmosphere.Would definitely recommend this pub.

We stayed in The Rising Sun Inn on Easter Sunday and had an extremely pleasant experience. Although they have just recently taken over the place, Emma and the team have done wonders to get everything up and running. The bar staff was excellent and the locals were very friendly as well. The only down side was not being able to... More

I visited the Rising Sun with friends on Thursday night, the place was very busy with a huge group in the dining room. Food was great, the venison special was amazing and the service was as expected from a pub. Fun friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. I would question the reviews below as after chatting to the... More

Since the previous management left this pub in february this year the rising sun has lost its way. This pub was fast becoming the best in north devon by far but now has slipped back. I,m sure given time this will improve. Previous landlord was always around guiding and welcoming guests yet now there is no obvious management which is... More

We were advised that there were new owners and the website looked good..............took our two children on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was poor and we were advised there was now a temporary landlord/lady. The food was rubbish - my husband's prawn starter included warm, soggy lettuce, the steak was tough and I sent back my fish and chips the... More
