As part of our Sunday walk my partner and I decided to stop off for Sunday lunch, myself being a vegetarian. Initial indications were good as there were three vegetarian main courses marked on the menu. I chose the pak choi, fennel and carrot pie served with vegetables and my partner chose the roast beef. The vegetables/potatoes came in a... more

I wish I had read these reviews before eating at the Malsters arms. Eight friends had a meal here on the 18th of Oct. It was a very busy evening but that does not excuse the poor service (over an hour between courses) and the appaling quality of the food. Four of us had pot roast pigion. It was dry... more

This was without doubt my favourite place to be. Having been many times over the years. The location is perfect and the pub does have a certain scruffy charm. On recent vists the food was always really good. But. And it's a sad But. The last visit was a BIG disapointment. The food was awful. I ordered a Sweet Potato... more

We visted this pub hoping for a quality lunch. The surroundings of Bow Creek on the River Dart are stunning. However, the Malters Arms aren't! The service/reception isn't particularly welcoming and the whole place in desperate need of rennovation. The perhaps intended ambience of shabby chic is now much more shabby than chic. We had a below average, uninspired sort... more

If you want a boring, sterile chain hotel with towels washed so often they scrape your skin off then don't stay here. Maybe they are laid back, maybe some bits are falling down, but where else can you sit drinking local cider out of an unmarked plastic bottle at 1230 on a Sunday morning, nibbling on a pickled egg, and... more

We visited for a birthday lunch. The best feature is the fabulous riverside location. Unfortunately if you are in a group you get put in a dingy back room near the toilets. Food was all good wholesome cooking but frankly nothing we couldn't have produced at home. Service was pretty slow - plates didn't get cleared at end of meal... more

Stayed for a couple of nights in March 2008. Very lovely spot and quirky interesting rooms. Good for dogs. Seperate entrance so no need to take wet dog through the pub not that they would have minded; very laid back vibe. Our only complaint was that the laid backness extended to the cleaning and general up keep! Apart from the... more

Stayed in Floyd's Cabin at £85 per night, but the standard of room and service was only worth £20 a night. The room is not as it looks on the web page it is old and cheap and tired; there were stains on the sheets, a tatty and paint-splashed sofa, a hole in the ceiling (covered badly by a cardboard... more

The Maltster's Arms is located in the village of Tuckenhay, near Totnes in Devon. Getting there for the first time is a bit of an adventure - navigating Devon's winding country lanes is always fun, so obtaining detailed directions before you go is a must! The pub used to be owned and run by world-famous chef Keith Floyd and it... more
