We haven't stayed here (yet) but always come here for Sunday lunch when visiting friends in Ivybridge. The setting is perfect with a wonderful view through the large windows in the restaurant. Excellent service (white gloves!) and a sommelier/maitre 'd with a beautifully understated sense of humour. The food was very good indeed and great to be able to go... More

Last month I was in my view rightly critical of this hotel, & posted a review. The manager replied expressing his concerns & assured me he make certain things were rectified. I have to say he was true to his word. Better service in the bar quality food in the restaurant friendly polite staff. Well done Sir. I will continue... More

We had Sunday lunch here recently. Whilst the service and food was good I feel I have to mention the vegetable portion size. My husband had roast potatoes with his meal and myself champ potato which was served with the meat.when the accompanying dish of veg was brought to the table I actually waited for my dish to arrive which... Just returned from stay in pouring rain ! even that could not dampen the welcome you receive when your arrive. Suite was great and food even better, a pleasure to have such a hotel in the UK. Thoroughly enjoyed the spa a bonus on a wet day.

Firstly, I must say the Thurlestone is one of my favourite hotels in the country. Whenever I'm in Plymouth on business I'm prepared to make a detour in the evening to stay here. I've also had some great leisure breaks at the Thurlestone. As a hotel for business or leisure it ticks all the right boxes with a couple of... More

We have been coming to Thurlestone for years with our family. It's a great hotel with excellent facilities. The 3rd change to the indoor spa since we first visited is easily the best. It's really good. We try and come off season nowadays as during July and August the hotel is really busy. This time we visited again with our... More

Not many times in your life will you find anything much better than the Thurlestone Hotel. It stands apart, from the superb site overlooking the sea, to the perfection of its food and service. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed. Great golf course too so what more could you want. Many years ago the Grose family who own the hotel had... More

Dear Valerie m What a fantastic recommendation! Thank you so much. Yes, Margaret Amelia Grose and her husband, William John, took a lease on a farmhouse in Thurlestone (now the Village Inn) in 1896 and started taking in paying guests. There is a wonderful story that, in the early 1900’s, the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII), who was attending... More

Stayed here many times as we only live an hour away. The staff stay a long time which is a good recommendation. Everything about the hotel is good and the staff very friendly and attentive. I am a vegan and the restaurant always provide me with a choice which is wonderful. Facilities excellent and in a beautiful part of Devon.... More

Staying in Thurleston on holiday and there wasn't much else locally for dining out so booked in advance for Sunday lunch. So glad we did. Reception from the time we arrived was excellent. The hotel is beautiful - exquisite dining room with views of Thurlestone Bay to die for. The food and service were top notch and we expected to... More

Dear Foodies1_13 Thank you so much for your review of Sunday lunch at the Thurlestone, I am so pleased you enjoyed it. The hotel is open to non-residents, and many locals and holidaymakers enjoy dinner or traditional Sunday lunch in the hotel restaurant, as you did. We also serve lunch in the Terrace Bar, a pub meal in the 16th... More

My Husband took us and our Sons for my "special" Birthday celebrations to the Thurlestone, as many years ago, we went for Valentine's and I'd always wanted to return. My expectations were fairly high as I'd raved on and on about it before, and we worked out within a short while of arriving, that we'd chosen the perfect venue for... More

Dear skipper123, I am delighted that you (with your husband and sons) enjoyed your birthday celebrations with us and thank you for choosing the Thurlestone for your special day. I am really sorry you were disturbed by wedding guests returning to their rooms at 2 am. We do close the bars at 11.30pm, which discourages late-night revels, and ask all... More
