The adjective heavenly is the only one adequate to describe to location of the Commodore Hotel. Looking across the estuary of the River Torridge to Appledor and watching the tine com in is unbelievable relaxing. The hotel itself exceeds expectations in terms of room comfort, food and especially service - which is wonderfully personal. It was obvious that many od... More

Stopped in for afternoon tea on what turned out to be a very sunny afternoon. We sat out on the terrace at the front and enjoyed the fabulous views across the estuary. Tea was plentiful with a hot water top up. We also had 2 x lovely scones with yummy clotted cream and jam and 2 x different types of... More

Called into the Commodore around 3.30 p.m. hoping for an afternoon pot of tea. No staff visible anywhere. Finally found someone hiding behind the reception desk and was curtly told that tea was only available if I bought food too. Given there were no other guests/customers around I should have thought they would be grateful for any business. The hotel... More

A party of 6 of us stayed overnight for a fabulous James Bond themed evening. From our arrival where we were offered complimentary tea or coffee to a wonderful breakfast the following day nothing was too much trouble and all the staff worked so hard to make the evening a success. Great fun and we can't wait to return

Booked an overnight stay including evening meal and breakfast for our parents golden wedding anniversary and my parents were over the moon with their room and the view of Instow beach. Food was amazing as always and as they were celebrating they were more spoilt than usual by all the staff and owners. This hotel really deserves more stars than... More

Our third visit to the Commodore was on 5th August, 2015. We love this location, had a superb reception and were offered complimentary tea and coffee on arrival. Each tine we have enjoyed rooms with sea views and balconies and have always been delighted with the restful decor and tasteful furnishings including the restaurant and all public areas of the... This is a gem of a hotel: fabulous location with perfect service and real attention to detail. This far surpasses what you would expect of a three star hotel. Rooms are scrupulously clean and well appointed. The views are extraordinarily lovely- we had a groundfloor room with little private patio and open views of the sea. Perfect. The dinner and... More

Took an elderly cousin for afternoon tea, which she and us thoroughly enjoyed. There was plenty of clotted cream and the scones were a good size. The setting is stunning,we were there on a beautiful sunny day.The views across the bay were amazing.

A wonderful few days were you walk you through the door and feel part of this family run hotel. The staff clearly care about the guests and there is genuine connection. It is spacious and well appointed, ample room to find a quite corner if you wish or just to take in the stunning view of the Estuary and Appledore... More

We went here to celebrate the wedding anniversary of some dear friends. It was lovely to sit outside with our pre-dinner drinks and admire the view of Instow estuary. The helpful young Restaurant Manager took our photos and it was a gorgeous backdrop. We loved our hake with grapefruit and orange sauce. The other diners were very pleased with their... More
