Dec 13, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed at this hotel on 12th December and had picked it from a list of hotels in the Lyme Regis area. It was a bit further out in the countryside than we had realised and although it is a beautiful setting with great views it is a bit isolated. We had booked a twin room and unfortunatley although the... more

We were visiting relavtives in Dorset and Devon, and this hotel looked lovely in the photos and good location, however, we were not given a room in the hotel, it was opposite (which is not shown in photos) in garden outbuildings. The room was clean, but the shower did not work, in fact it had been taken out, there was... more

Having stayed there previously a few years ago, it was good to see the difference that the new owners have made in the short time that they've been there. It has to be said that beforehand there was some interesting taste in furnishing.. fairly worn and tired looking, but as far as I can tell, most of this has been... more

I know the area well, and was taking my teenage chilren to visit their grandmother. I couldn't stay with the friends I usually stay with, hence the need for an hotel, and my booking was quite last-minute. I took two rooms, as my daughter is of an age where she can't share with either her brother or her Dad! I... more

We arrived quite late and were treated to the most wonderful sunset out on the patio. The rooms were comfortable and our hosts Adam and Carrie were very charming. We spent quite a lot of time getting to know the local area and, being only 10 minutes from lovely Lyme Regis, Fairwater Head is ideally situated to explore this gem... more

We first started staying at the Fairwater Head Hotel because it was a convenient meeting point with friends from Dorset. We realised it had become a destination in its own right when, just recently they didn't have room for us and we decided to postpone our trip rather than stay elsewhere. It's not just brilliantly located to visit East Devon... more

Our room was very comfortable - especially the bathroom which had ample storage space for our toiletries, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed all the meals which were beautifully served and obviously made with the freshest of ingredients. The bar was welcoming with space to relax and enjoy the canapes with the drinks before dinner. The staff were friendly and welcoming. more

Rooms are tired and rundown, location is great, and the main building is pretty. Breakfast was fantastic the only good thing about this hotel, it was the worst nights sleep I think I have ever had. Bed lumpy, sheets smelt, bathroom mouldy, kettle did not work (and the milk portions were 3 months out of date). Lunch was not permitted... more

The surroundings were excellent. The food was very good. The only bad experience we had was when we arrived , we were told that the toilet flush was broken.and that we could not change rooms as there were no other rooms available. The owner /manager thereafter showed us how to use the flush which was disconnected failing which his alternative... more

This place should be a great place to stay, but sadly it seems to have rested on its laurels since the 1970's. The surly manager clearly went to the same hotel management course as Basil Fawlty - 'the customer is always wrong' would be a fair assessment of his approach to dealing with guests. The room was ok but not... more
