We spent easter weekend at Combe House and would gladly recommend to anyone. Service, quality of the property and grounds, food. ...all flawless. We were upgraded to Boswell room, a master suite room and our crawling little one had the run of the place. We also had a special view of the arabian horses and hills beyond. It is pricey... More

We wanted to come away to Devon and completely relax. Combe House let us do just that. Everything is set for the the complete comfort of guests, very comfortable rooms combined with a fantastic staff. The house is old and certainly has its quirks but that adds to the charm. We arrived as stressed out people and left as chilled... More

My wife and I visited for a couple of nights during the week to take a break away. We had been wanting to come here for some time and were certainly not disappointed. The location, accommodation, staff, service and food are all excellent and without fault. The wine list was described as It would had been nice if the owners... More

We stayed here for three nights as we were visiting River Cottage. The hotel is very good and the staff and service were wonderful. The hotel is in beautiful grounds and the main part of the hotel, ie lounge, bar etc are character filled and very comfortable, the weather was poor so we enjoyed tea by a roaring log fire.... More

This 450 year old house that is now a Five Star B&B is really beautiful on 3500 acres of rolling hills in beautiful Devon. The staff are terrific , friendly, respectful and helpful. The "Signature" room we reserved for 4 nights was very nice with panoramic views of horses grazing in pastures and distant roof tops of outbuildings. A delightful... More

Just returned from a perfect 4 night stay at Combe House in Devon. We actually stayed in the Thatched Cottage for 2 people with our dog and we definitely had the best of both worlds. Or for once we definitely had our cake and ate it!! The cottage was beautiful, decorated to a very high standard, extremely comfortable, with a... More

We spent a lovely day at this hotel which is down a one track road (with passing places). The hotel is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. We had an excellent and comfortable room and the tasting menu and wine is well well chosen and well complemented. The only criticism was that the English breakfast was not as well done... More

Stayed two nights and had two historic martini's (amongst many other delicious things). I think that says a lot about the quality of this beautiful country house hotel in deepest Devon. It was just the same a year ago when we visited.

I chose this hotel for a birthday treat. It was raining and windy when we arrived but we received a lovely warm welcome. The staff here are really attentive and so friendly. Our room was large but had a cozy feel. We also liked the traditional slipper roll top bath and the Crapper toilet! We sat on the massive comfortable... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Award For Excellence - Conde Nast Johansens 2014. In Top Best Foodie Hotels in SW England - voted by readers of Food magazine. Combe House Devon is a stunning 450-year old Elizabethan Manor, set in 3,500 acres of one of Devon's finest estates. It's informal, relaxing and hugely romantic, and wherever you wander (and there's quite a bit of it) something magnificent catches the eye. Devon foodies will undoubtedly have heard of Combe House. The acclaimed restaurant is highly praised as one of the best in the south west, and service is genuinely faultless. There is loads of local game and fresh fish and most of the vegetable and herbs come from the restored Victorian kitchen gardens. The support for local producers and seasonal dishes here is obsessive - and with good reason. The restaurants are popular and The Good Food Guide 2014 describes Combe House as a 'seductive hotel with seriously good dining'. Hadleigh Barrett and Stuart Brown, Master Chefs of Great Britain, are responsible for a changing menu packed with interesting meat and fish options, from scallops with creamy tarragon gnocchi to seared duck breast with braised red cabbage. The cellar is what you'd expect from a grand old country house - but all wines are chosen less to impress than serve the season, mood or nature of their dishes. Eat in one of two spacious dining rooms with traditional fire places. Admire the murals, relish the atmosphere, enjoy the flavours from mercifully well-spaced tables. You'll always receive a warm welcome - it's best to book ahead for lunch and dinner. Genuine hospitality is always on the menu. ... more   less
