We arrived at Heddon's Gate in beautiful sunshine and were instantly impressed by its tranquil location - the only sounds were birdsong and the pecking of a woodpecker! Pat made us very welcome and showed us to our room before providing us with a very welcome cup of tea and biscuits downstairs. Mark joined us and filled us in on... More

Stayed here for one night on our walking tour of Devon's north coast. Fantastic old-style hotel in a unique location, with lovely rooms, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful hosts and a great breakfast. Hard to beat.

We found this wonderful hotel by chance. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the owners Mark and Pat. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we had the most delightful stay! The views from the hotel are magnificient. The hotel is bright and airy with each room individual in style. We had a wonderful and peaceful break... More

We were booked into the hotel mid-way through walking the first part of the Southwest Coast Path. For those coming from Porlock I'd suggest taking the higher path off the hill rather than walking right down into Heddon's Gate, and then looking out for a very difficult to see path which heads off to the left into a wood. If... More

Your tip to use the Old Carriage Path is a good one because it is well above the south west coast path so the views are better, it is wider and it is also just below Heddon's Gate. You did well to find your way directly up to the garden (it isn't a route which we are allowed to signpost).... More

We enjoyed a great two-night break with delicious breakfasts and dinners on 20/21 March'15.The Carriage Drive walk from the Hunters Inn provides stunning views of the coast and Pat was quickly on hand with tea and cake to refresh us on our return. The hotel is situated in a real sun trap and is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Thank you very much for visiting us in March and for your kind review. Since your visit we were thrilled to receive a booking from your friends and we look forward to welcoming them to Heddon's Gate at the end of April. The Old Carriage Path isn't well known at all but we think that it has the best views... More

Wonderful setting, lovely rooms, great hosts and truly dog friendly without compromising the comfort of those without canine friends. A great retreat away from it all with some wonderful woodland and coastal walks direct from the hotel. The food is excellent and well presented and the rooms well equipped and clean. The personal email contact prior to arrival was informative... More

We had a lovely stay at this hotel and Mark and Pat could not be more welcoming. They gave us a map and we were off on a lovely walk. The room was spacious and very comfortable, bathroom looked brand new. Love the décor in all the reception areas. Plenty of room to find a quiet spot. The evening meal... More

Very pleasant hotel run by a lovely couple who have spent a lot of time and effort to upgrade it. They purchased the property about 14 months ago and are transforming it into a very desirable place to stay. It is set in a wonderfully peaceful location with good local walks, the ideal place to get away from it all.... More
