We had an excellent time here. The hotel has been restored well. We were made to feel very welcome and it was just like being at home. The owners were very accommodating of our children including the new born. Good was great and fresh. I would highly recommend a stay here.

We spent three nights at this hotel over the May bank holiday and felt welcome and relaxed from the moment we arrived. Pat and Mark work very hard to make Heddon's Gate a special place to stay. We ate at the hotel on the first night and the set 3 course meal was excellent, complimented by wine at a very... More

We were pointed towards Heddon's Gate by our friends who were having their wedding in a nearby venue. From the first conversation on the phone with Mark the owner, we were treated to some extra friendly service and that continued into our stay. The rooms, food, bar, service were all 'Excellent'. Thanks to you all at Heddons Gate and a... More

Stayed at this beautiful hotel for a two day break. The hotel has been lovingly and tastefully restored by its owners Pat and Mark The building snuggles into the hillside and is surrounded by wooded slopes onto a tiered garden filled with trees and birdsong and visited by deer. Each room has its own character and we were warm and... More

Just returned from a lovely weekend away at this beautiful establishment. Had not visited since 1980 but couldn't fault a single thing. The owners were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were spotless with amazing views and breathtaking scenery. Couldn't fault the food, great service in a convenient location. Would definitely recommend this place... More

We arrived at Heddon's Gate in beautiful sunshine and were instantly impressed by its tranquil location - the only sounds were birdsong and the pecking of a woodpecker! Pat made us very welcome and showed us to our room before providing us with a very welcome cup of tea and biscuits downstairs. Mark joined us and filled us in on... More

Stayed here for one night on our walking tour of Devon's north coast. Fantastic old-style hotel in a unique location, with lovely rooms, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful hosts and a great breakfast. Hard to beat.

We were booked into the hotel mid-way through walking the first part of the Southwest Coast Path. For those coming from Porlock I'd suggest taking the higher path off the hill rather than walking right down into Heddon's Gate, and then looking out for a very difficult to see path which heads off to the left into a wood. If... More

Your tip to use the Old Carriage Path is a good one because it is well above the south west coast path so the views are better, it is wider and it is also just below Heddon's Gate. You did well to find your way directly up to the garden (it isn't a route which we are allowed to signpost).... More

Exmoor is a long way from Lancaster so we're very pleased that you enjoyed your stay so much. There are plenty more wonderful walks for your next visit so please come back next time you have a few days off. More
